As some of you know I’m in the long and drawn out process of building a Moog Modular. This year I aquired the heart of my system, the Voyager and associated Foogers.
My question is this.
Since the Voyager has a limited keyboard range, I might want to control it with an 88 key piano like a Roland Fantom or something along those lines. If I use a Midi controller to extend the playable range of the Voyager in this fashion, is the Voyager still sending out Voltage and trigger signals?
I mean, I know that an osc is going to do the same thing regardless of what is controlling it but Im really just wondering about the envelopes and such. I guess my question is really about the nature of Midi activating the trigger signals and the ability to export them to other destinations.
Esentially, if you are slaving the voyager with Midi, is it still able to control other CV gear thats not midi.
I would assume so, because what you’re describing here would only affect the keyboard gate voltage. The filters, amplifier, and pitch are still functioning normally. Of course, if I’m wrong, Amos will correct me, I’m sure.
I use my Nord Modular G2 to sequence my Voyager.
The G2 has many possibilities as fas as sequencers, logic gates, multiplexers and such. (extremely wide range)
I use a XV-351 voltage expander with my Voyager. In my experiences, the Voyager is able to convert anything my G2 can send to it, which is sometimes pretty insane things. (random pattern generators)
I use the XV’s gate to trigger envelopes on my modular equipment. I also use the keyboard pitch out for fun with my freqboxes, ring mods, filters and such. It is really fun.
So Basically as far as the Voyager is concerned, it doesn’t care what controls it, the voltages are still being produced and will be just like anything else right?
