I’ve been using my LP as a controller lately, and have suddenly run into unexpected problems with some aspects of MIDI recording and playback.
I’m running an Intel iMac with 10.6.4 and Logic Express 9. My two MIDI interfaces are a MOTU MIDI Express 128 and M-Audio Midisport 8x8. Each are on their own USB port on the mac.
The following issues appeared today for no apparent reason: mod wheel assigned to vibrato on the LP cuts out volume and pans hard left, and possibly changes filter cutoff (when routed through Logic and back to the LP, even with Local off); MIDI timing utterly shot to bits (late notes, sloppy recording of wheel movements, note lengths wrong…)
I’m currently trying to find the source of the problem as it’s completely stopped my workflow. Recent changes include running the LP through the M-Audio rather than the MOTU (I found today the M-Audio does not like 14-bit CC) and adding a hub to the Mac’s third USB socket (which I assume can’t be affecting things..)
Is there any way to filter the ‘extra’ byte from the mod wheel? I have been using Logic for a few months but the manual is huge, I haven’t been able to find the info I need, and the LP doesn’t seem to have such a feature. Unless I’ve missed it.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Nathan.
