Missed opportunity? (desktop modules)

I posted another thread on buying a Poly and have spent the last few days on the hunt.

What I found was a market of small desktop modules selling for $400-$800 primarily by Dave Smith, Doepfer and shortly Oberheim (to add to the release of the SEM) plus a few more Virt Analogs for a bit more dough from Access and Waldorf and I think that Moog is missing it.

Am not suggesting they get into the VA market for obvious reasons but I think from a packaging perspective, they should have released a Little Phatty rack / tabletop either in a CP-251/VX351 package, or a 2x footprint of the same form factor.

I think there is a line where boutique products are made for a given high level of quality and workmanship/materials and slightly (by 20%) higher price tag, and then there’s the stuff made in Mexico or China that count on margins in order to turn profit. Maybe that’s the diff and if that’s the holdup, I take back my ‘missed opportunity’ comment but there’s been alot of talk about module this and module that. Any rumors or early news on the next product?

I have a feeling that as soon as Doepfer releases DarkTime, there are going to start selling a bunch of DarkEnergy’s. How about a packaged Phatty that beats them to the punch?

.

They do make a rack mount Voyager with the option of wood end pieces.

Don’t hold your breath. I have been for quite some time and I’m blue in the face.
