Minitaur only sends to one side of earphones

I always turn volume down to 0 when connecting but when testing this out (bought last friday) I could only get audio in one side of my beyerdynamic DT990s. They are 600 ohm headphones. The same happens when I try plugging my monitors into the audio out. Just one side works (in the audio out it’s the opposite side of the headphone jack).

Is this common? Is there an easy fix? Sorry i’m a noob.

The Minitaur main audio jack is MONO out, so when hooking to your sound system you need to use a MONO input on your mixer / interface, or a mono splitter to send the audio to both inputs of your sound system.

The headphone jack, however, while still “MONO”, should give you audio in both sides of your headphones ~ you can try it with a cheap pair of ear buds/headphones to verify.

Good move in turning the Minitaur’s audio down before connecting headphones -
the output levels can defintely put a hurt on headphones & ears if one isn’t careful!!

A stereo headphone will always gives you a single channel signal on a mono output. This is because the jack of the headphones got three contacts: tip, ring and sleeve. Sleeve is the ground. and tip and ring are the channels. A mono socket got just two contact: one for the tip and the sleeve. Again sleeve is the ground and the tip is the mono signal. So the will nothing or just the sleeve contact connected to the stereo headphones jack. So it would be strange, if both channels would give you a signal on your stereo headphones.
You need a special cable that splits the output tip contact signal to the tip and ring contact of the headphones.

Some synth manufactures made their synth different and add contacts to use their output also for stereo transmission.

Minitaur 1/8" stereo headphone jack is wired to send the signal to both stereo channels.
The main audio out jack is mono only ~

At least, that’s how it works on mine…
