so the taurus/minitaur goes really deep, but does it do sub-bass too? why doesnt it have a subosc, and would it even benefit from one? trying to figure out mintaur (no subosc) vs minibrute (w/ subosc) for bass
You can transpose Minitaur in half steps down an entire octave. Still think it needs a sub-osc?
My Taurus required for me to put a more powerful speaker in my amp. I seriously doubt you have a speaker that will cover all the low frequencies the Minitaur will put out.
The term sub osc has nothing to do with sub bass - it’s a signal derived from the original oscillator rather than being a discrete second oscillator. It’s always one ot two octaves below the main oscillator pitch, that’s why it’s called a sub osc. Also it tends to be a feature to make single osc synths sound fatter. Trust me, two Minitaur oscillators are plenty fat enough.
If you pitch a second oscillator one or two octaves below the main osc that’s the same thing. Also with analogue sub oscillators you tend to be limited to square, sometimes pulse, waves - whereas you can have saw with the second Minitaur oscillator.
Let me assure you, you will NEVER need a subosc with the Minitaur. Oh my GOD, I cannot emphasize this enough.
Also, it is just… well, ludicrous to compare the Minitaur to the MiniBrute. The Minitaur is simply the King of Bass. (yes, I have experience with both) If you have speakers which will portray the low end of the Minitaur, I guarantee you’ll never want for bass again. It is architecture-damaging, and that is not marketing hyperbole.
