Ableton & moog minitaur set up help
Im abit of a newbie (have been using Maschine and ableton for a short while with some success but have upgraded a few things and am a little stuck.
I have set up my studio over the weekend which now consists of
PC - Ableton Live 9
Maschine
Moog Minitaur
Micro Korg (used also as midi keyboard)
Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
My set up is like this
PC > USB > Maschine
USB > Moog Minitaur > Audio out > Focusrite Scarlett Input 1
USB > Focusrite Scarlett > Output 1 & 2 > KRK 6’s
MicroKorg > Midi > Focusrite Scarlett
Micro Korg > Audio out > Focusrite Scarlett Input 2
I have everything working except Im struggling setting up Moog Minitaur properly.
I can set it up as an external instrument in Ableton and play Microkorg through minitaur to record on a midi track
what I have problems with is playing audio tracks through Minitaur as an external audio effects.
I have watched the “Ableton & Minitaur Step 2” youtube video which doesn’t work for me for some reason.
When he inputs audio to “3” This doesn’t work do anything with my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (I have also added a cable from audio interface Speaker 3&4 to Audio in of Minitaur but this doesnt seem to do anything)
Any help of the best way to cable this equipment so I can utilize the Minitaur through ableton would be great.
I would like to play audio tracks through minitaur to manipulate and then record the outcome on a new track.
any help would be appreciated.
Hi.
There is one trick for external audio.
Check the online manual, page 19:
• You can use the Minitaur to process any audio signal simply by plugging into the AUDIO IN jack. To hear the external audio signal, you will need a MIDI NOTE ON message. To hear the external audio signal without issuing a MIDI NOTE ON message, apply +5V to the GATE jack. This will leave the Gate open, and the Amplifier Envelope will remain at its Sustain level until the Gate closes.
So, just press a key on a midi keyboard or create a midi clip with any note, then turn the volume of OSC1 and OSC2 to zero.
In addition, use Minitaur Editor or directly send a midi CC #27 to set the external input level.
In addition, you may combine the Minitaur’s own sound with external sound, for example a radio noize from FM receiver’s headphone output
p.s. If you use Ableton Live 9, you may get my free control panel to set the external input level directly in your set.
Thanks for the reply.
But im still unsure of the set up.
I watched Amos’s youtube video Minitaur Ableton Step 2.
How come he doesn’t mention anything about opening a gate? he seems to be able to use automation of lives instruments with a simple connection via audio interface.
Looking at this video - he seems to have output 3 of audio interface into Audio in of minitaur and this allows him to adjust parameters of the sound.
If this is incorrect and I need to send midi note to minitaur, i have one other question.
If I send a midi note to the minitaur - it plays that midi note.
So how do i send a dummy midi note so that I here the audio(sample)track through the minitaur to adjust parameters?
Thanks
Just turn down the osc 1 and osc 2 level knobs to zero.
