Minimoog V

Minimoog V a faithful reproduction of the Minimoog. Offering all the features of the original, the software version also brings polyphony, MIDI management, presets, coupled with other advantages of modern tools.

But Is It That Good?

Less space doe :smiling_imp:

Its is indeed the best software trying to sound like a real Minimoog. But to me it is NOT a 100% or even a 95% close to the special sound of a Minimoog. Some of mine favourite Minimoog patches didn’t worked well on the software demo version. The max modulation of the noise to the filter is far lower on the software. FM does sound different if applied to a self oscillating filter which is also modulated by the envelopes.

And I wonder why the put a chorus FX in the software version. I have seen all kind of FX connected to a real Minimoog. But I never ever heard or saw a Minimoog connected to a chorus. Maybe they were lazzy and just copied the FX code from their CS80V to the Minimoog V code.

And one thing is very obvious: part of the Minimoog is its look and feel. And the ease of using it. Playing software on a computer and to tweaking controller knobs on a special controller box isn’t like playing a real Minimoog with its unique interface. And I really wonder how to play a cool Minimoog solo on a soft Minimoof V because most people use either 2 octave keyboard actions with their computer, or they use weigthed actions. Both change the way you play the instrument. If you ever played a cool Hammon Organ software using average MIDI keyboards and then played the a real Hmmond organ action, you know how the user interface will change the style of playing and inspiration.

Creamware’s Minimax is supposed to sound superior to the Alturia minimoog. IMO the Minimax sounds incredible, possibly the best sounding software synth, along with ProTone (Prophet 1) and Prodessy (Odessy). Among other things the resonance is more authentic in Minimax.
