I think GIMP 2.8 seems to be the best way forward. Plus it is FREE!
I have been able to manipulate what I want so far (although of course I am only starting out and may hit a brick wall as I advance [hopefully!] onto more intricate tasks).

Oh no, I didn’t! This was made by Moog themselves, for the current production of the Model D.
You’ll notice you have the new parameters which the old edition does not have.
