Hello,
While I was doing the pitch wheel dead band mod, I broke some wires going to the 12 pin Cinch Jones connector that attaches to the left hand controller panel. I figured I would post the wire positions here in case someone else has the same problem that I did.
This is for the 12 pin Cinch-Jones connector in the LH controller section. It’s attached to the wiring harness that comes from the main chassis. Note that my Minimoog is from 1979, so Minis from other years may or may not be different. Anyway, here the wiring color code in mine:
Good stuff for reference. Thanks.
(The wire colors can change here and there, but generally Moog was consistent.)
If you have a 1979 Mini, you may well have gold-plated connectors too and they stand up to time better than tinned ones.
Fwiw, a Mini won’t play without the mod section hooked up.
This is because some signals pass through it.
If, for any reason, one wants to play a Mini that doesn’t have a mod section, they can take a 12 pin male connector and jumper the following pins together:
1 & 2 tied together.
8, 9 & 12 tied together.
With such a plug a Mini will play, though it will be a couple octaves lower than normal.
Btw, you can increase the reliability of the Glide and Decay switches by also hooking up the unused pair of contacts each switch usually has.
Very early Minis may not have dual contact (DPDT) switches, but most later ones do and two contacts are better than one.
