As far as I know, this is a discrete recreation of a Model D housed in an attaché case. For me, the interface is too cramped for a performance instrument, but you must admit that it’s a pretty decent price!
For those into Eurorack or wanting a more ergonomic layout you can try the MME:
I had the a similar reaction; cute but tired of mini-type-products. Whether it be mini-keys, mini-jacks, or mini knobs. Iza gots da BIG fingerz! Also, not a big fan of exposed circuitry - an accident waiting to happen, or expensive dust trap. I bet it sounds good up close up to it Several times I’ve heard the distant lure of euro-rack, but in the end two things drive me away; tiny parts, overtly non-traditional sound-scape - without a melody my mind loses interest.
Although, having traditional modules as a substrate for building up a mini-modular sounds nice. But starting from where I did, mini-stuff doesn’t make sense.
This is the sort of wiring you end up with (!)

Regarding big vs small, why not both ? I’ve played on a System 35 and the sound was impressive, but it would take up several years budget and most of my music room. Eurorack in general has a harsher edge to it, but in my opinion there’s more room for innovation. Dare I say it, the most interesting stuff is digital (as long as the resolution and interface is decent) and is moving away from traditional subtractive synthesis. I still have the Sherman FB, Space Echo and 3 MFs kicking ass! Sure a great deal of Eurorack demos are chaotic noise, but paired with the right sequencer you can really go places. That’s my musical goal for this year anyway.
