We have an easier way to distort reality to whatever we like, whenever we like. Not inside a complex chemical or a simple plant, or a convoluted theory. We can do it in our imagination, just by reading a book.

good one Eric- and Voyagers should all come with a special brownie!- why not alter, at least just to see what it’s like at least? I’m talking marijuana- sure, some habitual users can be dull company sometimes, but once every now and then, by yourself, AFTER you’ve recorded a Moogy piece of music, with good headphones on, and a box of triscuits, and a block of cheese, and so on and so forth! ever enjoyed an artist’s reinterpretation of a song? then try reinterpreting your mindset with some good for the soul THC! ok, there’s my endorsement
I thought I was the only one. I don’t feel so alone now.
You’d be surprised of how many of “us” there are…
I’d rather get “high” on playing long drum solos or long inspired screaming leads (Jimmy Page style) on my Minimoog… Both of which I get better at, each and every day. ![]()

I didn’t know that shredding on a minimoog or playing In-Da-Gadda-Da-Vida was a vice ![]()
All I can say is about pot is…
Our record collections wouldn’t be the same without it.
One can’t say they’d rather do something else, if they have no comparative experience to judge against.
Most people would probably say “I’ve never played a synth and see no reason to.”
Several very notable synth designers and techs did their jobs while high.
Pot is not for everyone, nor should it be.

Is that the cause of early Moog synths being unable to stay in tune ?
(I know it’s not, just kidding…)
In these photos, it looks like Bob might have been a little “high” playing the Theremin along side Keith Emerson… ![]()

And I will add that I might have been on a buzz from secondhand pot smoke when I went to see rock concerts back in the early eighties, especially indoors ! ![]()
Is he shooting sparks out of a ribbon, that’s badass. Have you guys heard the interview when Bob is talking about the Museum of Modern Art concert in the garden, and he says the musicians were all high including John Mclaughlin, and Bob’s parents smelled a huge cloud of herb smoke, and his mother said “what’s that wonderful smell, Robert?”. The best Bob quote ever “Speaking of existential, man”. I think the Dude and Bob would have gotten along well.

I have that video in my favorites list. And yes, Emo had his ribbon controller modded to shoot stuff, be it sparks like in the picture, or paper ribbons. ![]()

That has always been my favorite interview with dear Bob !
There was also one with Herb Deutsch, where he explained that the first concerts with a Moog synth were so unpredictable, that they used car batteries under a table to power it up, just to make sure the power supply would be reliable and the instrument would stay in tune… Pioneering days indeed…
In this video, from the Moog Foundation channel on YT, starting at around 9:00.
Only the uA726 chip, used on the later oscillator board serials 10175 and above (…) is harder to find because it has been discontinued. And no direct modern replacements seems available (to my knowledge).
Everything else has a modern equivalent readily available.
ok thanks dude for that and for the other sensitive informations in your post.
If a Mini is recapped, cleaned, tightened and generally kept in good condition, there’s a good chance an instrument could outlast its owner.
At worst, a Mini can be repaired usually (…)
that’s comforting. thank you, kevin.
