Minimax ASB

thanks Greg, I am looking fwd to these demos as there is one locally for @ $600 cdn, now if Creamware would only make a CS-80 clone …

The emulations sound like the originals in terms of tone colors; where they differ is the digital lack of fullness, power & dimensionality of analog. Pretty good though not the same.

I’d be very curious how the minimax compares to the original regarding FM sounds. I’m thinking of Emerson’s steel drum sound from KE9 2nd Impression. Here’s the sound.
And approximate knob settings.

Dude, I would pay cash money for that in a heartbeat if it sounded as good as the other Creamware stuff.

I’m about 80% of the way saved up to do my own comparison MP3. Voyager is a few paychecks away…

Interesting you should mention the steel drum. This one of the sounds from the Minimoog PatchBook that we’re working on, and the one proving the most difficult to get right on all three synths. Brian came up with an alternate patch on his Minimoog (it’s different from the Patchbook steel drum) that seemed to work well, so we may end up using that one instead.

anymore news on the comparison of the ASB and Moog Greg?

My buddy Brian and I did some work in his studio earlier in the summer, but haven’t been able to get back together since to finish the demos. We talked about it just yesterday (really!) and are planning to return to the comparison tests soon.

I have the minimax and it is the best v.a. I heard.
I also have the little phatty which is more “organic”
both can be heard in my compositions on virb

Soon? It’s November already!!!

Okay - just kidding. Seriously, any word on when you plan to post those samples?

soon… Maybe sooner than you think

ah, come on that’s not fair as I just don’t tend to think too fast these days.

Great job GregAE did you try to keep the volume level the same on all three?

Brian and I did try to keep all volume levels the same while recording, but we still had to normalize the samples in the editing/assembling phase.

thanks guys, very enlightening! I have to say that the Creamware module impressed me.

Glad you liked it. The test was enlightening for us, too.

The Minimax is an impressive module, but it’s not without its own little quirks. I posted a bit of additional info about this on the ‘Vintage, Voyager or Virtual’ thread, if you’re interested.

I really liked the sound of the your Voyager when you added the stomp box into the mix! I have a Speakeasy Vintage Music Classic Tube Stereo Pre that really adds to the sound as well.

It should really say that on the back of the Little Phatty

I just did a show last weekend - a Michael Jackson tribute - and the MD used a Minimax for all the MJ basslines. He also owns 2 Sources, and used to own a Mini. He’s a guy that is incredibly discerning when it comes to tone, and he stands by the Minimax 100%.

I’ve never owned a Mini - I’ve played a few, and I owned an RME for a while. I was extremely impressed with the sound and vibe of the Minimax. Apparently, you can still get them from Sonic Core. I might have to invest once the T-3’s get paid off.

Thats cool as hell! Not too many people want to openly admit they are jackson fans…cept after his death.

I have an original Thriller jacket (the record jacket, lolol) that Im going to framw and it will always hang in my studio. Even with the yellow crayon that I scribbled on it. It was simply the memory of how cool it was and how much he actually represented us kids that really made me appreciate him…plus Thriller was the best.
