My Sub Phatty hasn’t arrived yet, but here’s what I would try for StepPolyArp (SPA):
In the app, set MIDI IN to the Sub Phatty and also MIDI OUT to the Sub Phatty.
On the Sub Phatty itself, turn MIDI Local Control off (p. 34 in the Sub Phatty manual). When you do this, the Phatty will send notes to SPA, but only play the notes that SPA sends back.
If you get stuck in a loop, check that MIDI Merge is off (pp. 33-34 in the Sub Phatty manual).
I’m sure others will have the same question, so I’m going to start a new thread.
FYI the Slim Phatty arp works grrrrreat and sends MIDI out, too! ~
However, the MicroKorg I owned (grey one?) and resold did NOT send arp info via MIDI
Thanks, Pete. I already LittleMIDI and yes, it is a great app.
Good call on the MicroKorg; I hadn’t heard that before. In any event, I decided against purchasing another piece of hardware solely to send arpeggiations. I have been considering a Slim Phatty, but as of right now, I think I will refrain from doing so.
I’m going to keep working on the settings within the SPA app and hopefully sort out this issue I am having. If I manage to, it will suit me well enough until either one is integrated into the Sub Phatty or can afford to purchase a Slim Phatty. Their reported warm-up issues due the smaller enclosure, tuning instability, and so on are a bit of a detriment at the given moment, sad to say.
FWIW, i think you COULD solve your problem with the CP-251’s attenuators and the tuning knobs from the minibrute CV PITCH output … I haven’t yet tried sending the arp out over CV though I have used the CV IN from CP-251 and XL to control the pitch of the arpeggios on the minibrute.
Although I was skeptical at first, after endorsements from Kenneth and Marc and some of the rest of the forum members here, I just picked up a MiniBrute myself on cl and i totally love it ~ the filter is especially useful to add new colors to my synth sound palette — plus between it and an old ARP Axxe I am finally getting into the 1/8" jacks.
Personally, I don’t think there’s any “overlap” on any of these instruments- between the sounds and interfaces. The idea that you could have one “swiss army knife” analog mono synth is silly to me.
Every single one of them have their own individual character and charm…I imagine they will all sit beside and stand out with the SubPhatty as well ~ look forward to getting mine SOON!
TO MY EARS, the best call on the MicroKorg is that (unlike the Minibrute!) it just doesn’t sound very good. However, you could send out the arp from either the minbrute or the microKorg into a MOOG as audio in — the Slim sounds great as well, of course so any issues about ‘warm up time’ and oscillator drift are non-starters. I am looking forward to playing with this soon though with the SUB Phatty, Korg MS-10, Axxe all of them— and welcome those rich wavering analog tuning characters these instruments will provide…
