Mini moog D power cord sparked and melted?
But it still works. However its mushy now.
Can I open up the brain part to get to the PSU?
ideas? flames? hatred?

Of course the power cord can be replaced. Unplug your Mini first, remove the 18 metal screws holding the back panel cover, and replace both the power cord and grommet with new ones, making sure you connect the new wires following the original color scheme and routing (green to ground log, black to fuse holder, and white to the 115/230 V selector switch). It’ll be easier if you remove the PSU board to access the power cord. I’ve included a photo of mine as a guide.
If you’re not comfortable desoldering and tinkering with electrical things, let someone who is do it for you. In any case, no need to remind you to do all that with the power cord unplugged from the wall outlet ! ![]()

~Thank you~
You’re welcome, and good luck.
hi I removed the back and had to abort.
There huge PCB boards in the way.
Im chicken shit to even tough those boards if I damaged them I’m screwed! ![]()
yikes!

No worries. Just remove the screws that lock those boards in place, and gently lift them up from their connectors. It’ll give you a chance to clean the edge contacts on them, too. You only need to remove the two boards on the left, blocking your access to the power cord.
Once done replacing the power cord with a new one, simply re-insert the boards into their respective connectors, and put back their holding screws (making sure the round washer is between the board and the metal frame).
That’s it.
Anyway you look at it, it’s much safer to do that than to operate your beloved Mini D with a defective and damaged power cord.

EDIT: I rocked it out slightly left to the right over and over and it came loose. ![]()
now that is strange, went to remove my boards and the very first one, screws had fallen out.
Its BEYOND difficult to remove that board. Its like its fuzed in or glued in.
Should I spray some detoxit down that connection? Perhaps its got some “1970’s FUNK” down inside?

thank you for all your help.
Yeah, those edge connectors are pretty tight sometimes.
The loose screws might indicate that someone had already removed the boards, at one time, in order to clean the boards contacts and didn’t fasten the screws back on tightly enough maybe ?
As an additional note, when you’ll install the new power cord, the grommet might be pretty hard to insert in the hole. That’s normal. I use a pair of pliers to squeeze it in.
Dang, all done. Im not dead and it powers up! ![]()
Thank you!
Great news, and good work ! ![]()
You’re welcome.
I’ll send you my bill… ![]()
Cheers !
where can I get that grommet thing for the power cord?
Used something from ace hardware, did not fit.
Most of the time, the original one can be reused if not damaged. Otherwise, it’s easily available on online stores. Do a little search with “power cord grommet” …
