Someone please give me a dumbed down noob version of MIDI, how it works, and some advantages of it.

MIDI is a way for electronic musical devices (instruments, controllers, ect.) to communicate with each other. Many things can be sent and recieved but the basics are note value (pitch), note on, note off, velocity (how hard a note was played).
It is important to remember MIDI is just information and contains no actual sound. A synthesizer (or other device) can turn that information into sound though.
Ahh ok. I plugged it into Adobe Audition 3 today and all that I saw were the notes that I played. I was expecting it to give a direct link for recording or something.
