Hi, new to the forum and am working to make a basket case Micromoog sing again someday. When it does, it will need a replacement ribbon assembly for the left hand controller. Can anyone help with info on where to find one? The Micromoog came to me with the ribbon assembly disassembled, the nichrome strip has been mashed up and torn the teflon cover strip is gone.
Thanks MC. Thinking about this, I’m wondering if experimenting with stainless steel foil to see if I can fashion a replacement foil strip. The service manual calls it nichrome, but stainless steel is in the same ballpark. I’m not sure if the electrical resistance of the material is critical or not, but even the resistance is relatively close. The thickness of the broken strip I have is .06 mm, which is .002 in, and it’s 1/4 in wide. I see on ebay nichrome ribbon is hard to come by, but hobby shops sell stainless steel foil sheets that are .002 in thick, and 12" X 30". I’m sure it cuts with sharp scissors and a hole punch would work on the ends. Wish me luck. And where do I get the teflon tape for the cover?
Stainless can work fine.
Nichrome has a bit more springiness to it tho.
I wouldn’t worry about the resistance of the wire.
It’s becoming part of a variable resistor and really won’t matter.
I have a roll of the original covering tape.
PM me if you need some.
