I’ve recently gotten a Micromoog. The Osc Footage rotary switch has an “issue” where it pulls up from the face of the synth about 1/8". The switch works 100%, it just pulls up a bit. I’d like to replace this, as well as the Waveshape pot, as it’s a bit crackly. However, i don’t know what kind of replacements to use. If anyone has any idea and could point me to the proper switch/pots, i’d appreciate it.
*Edit, it’s actually the Doubling Pot that is noisy, not the Waveshaper.
If you’re not too concerned with keeping it 100% stock, you might see if you can find pots that are the same values as the originals, that aren’t large enough in back that they touch the PC board. You could then mount them to the panel, and use jumpers to wire them to the PC board. However, you should at least try cleaning the ones you have, and see if you can repair the pot that’s pulling out. And even if you can’t repair the one that’s pulling out, if it’s still working as it should, then perhaps it would be best to just leave well enough alone.
If i can’t find drop in replacement, then they’re staying in. I’m going to clean them regardless. I’ve been trying to figure out how i would repair the octave switch, but nothing is coming to mind.
OK, so i opened it up and it turns out that it isn’t actually pulling up from it’s shaft, the actual base of the pot is in 2 halves. And they’ve pulled apart. Here are some pics:
Very strange way to make something like this. I guess my best bet here is to glue the two pieces together. (?) I don’t even understand how they’re stuck together in the first place. The Modulation Source pot is also getting loose. I guess it’s off to Target for some super glue!
Well, i cleaned the surfaces off, got some heavy duty super glue gel, and glued the switch body back together. So far so good. Holding tight. And while i was in there, i took all the white keys off and cleaned them up.
