MF103 - biphase and then some?!

So I just discovered the Sweep In jack on the phaser. I was always kinda baffled why there where 2 cv ins for one knob. But after reading the manual a couple time it finnaly clicked! In 12stage mode the 103’s lfo controls 6 of the stages and the lfo being fed into the sweep in controls the other 6 stages creating to independant phasers! Using the ring mods carrier out to the sweep in produces some amazing results. (Warblely sine wave rising up into fm). Has anyone else messed with this much, I don’t recall it being mentioned before. I LOVE MOOG

You think that’s fun, try it in stereo :smiling_imp:

That will be tonights experiment. Through amps then headphones

Thanks for that. Ill keep that in mind when I finally get a phaser.

Eric

I think that this just moved the 103 to first on my ‘next Moog purchase’ list.

:open_mouth: stereo is awesome :open_mouth:

My next Moog will be the Theremin Upgrade, and then Foogers in order Murf Phaser and LPF.

But If I get my license before then Im going to get several modules.

I’ve played around a bit with similar setups running the ring mod and phaser through the LP’s Audio In with amazing results, making fine changes with my potentiometer bank. Unfortunately, I can’t run stereo with my current setup without running stuff through my Aiwa alarm clock/30 watt stereo. :smiling_imp:

LMAO that’s great! Is that the cylinder shaped one? My friend had one of those with four drum pads on top?!

ColorForm, actually it’s a 15 watt per channel bookshelf stereo run through two 12" endtable speakers from 1963. I just use it as an alarm clock.

Oh Crap! i think thats the kind of alarm clock i need

The Osc. out from the Freq Box can do the same thing and track too boot?

I don’t have an MF-107, but yes, r05c03 I believe that’s the idea. Don’t quote me on that, though I’m 99% sure that’s how it works.

The ringmod carrier out can go from lfo to vco though. But the freq has envelope follower and fm so that can be interesting

The MF-103 rocks. Just the other day I picked up an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone to do a side-by-side comparison (knowing I could return the EH). I figured if it sounded as good as the 103, I could sell the Fooger and get off cheap with the Small Stone.

I made my decision in under a minute: keep the 103.

The EH did sound great, but added a “haze” to the original sound, or made it a little “blurry”-sounding. The 103 is much clearer-sounding to me. When I say “clearer”, I don’t mean it lacks richness or depth. I mean it preserves all of the nuances of the original signal.

All of my testing was done with a Moog LP, not a guitar. I can see how a guitarist might prefer the color that the EH gives your tone. The other thing that bugged me about the EH was it has no wet/dry mix control.

I’m an axe man, and I much prefer the MF-103 to any other phaser on the market. For the same reasons as soundxplorer stated, but also because with CV control, you can do anything!

Back in high school, after a “long night,” I was crashed on the living room floor at my friend’s house. While I was sleeping, the other guys had put the stereo’s speakers on either side of my head (old Pioneers with 12" woofers and horn mids and tweeters.) Anyway, they then proceeded to >BLAST< “Your’s Is no Disgrace” (Yes) right into my ears (Old Sansui tube amp, around 50 watts per channel!)

:smiling_imp: What an excellent way to wake up !! :smiling_imp:

I have one of those old Sansui stereos. It worked until some folks moved it into the new house and then it hasn’t worked since.

Ill eventually get around to doing something with the speakers.

Wait…I THINK i chunked the amp. hmmm.

Eric

The MF-103 is the last Moogerfooger to complete my collection. I just found a MF-104z for 600.00 at Guitar Center yesterday, that seems the cheapest price I could find anywhere. Next payday I’ll have that phaser! :smiling_imp:

Wow! Great deal, tubeampguy! :open_mouth: EricK, I also have a Sansui…AU9500. It’s about 80 watts per channel in stereo and 75 watts in four channel stereo. It’s responsible for blowing two hundred watt JBL’s. Apparently, the new speakers can’t handle the old current. It sits in the garage, unused.
