MF102 Carrier In disables Frequency

My name is Tom and I’m currently playing my new MF102. I wanted to try the Carrier In input but I noticed that the Frequency control does nothing at all (I’m aware that the LFO part is disable). When I play, I get both sounds coming out and they are fairly “rinmodulated” but I expected to be able to change the frequency. Could you guys please tell me if this is normal or not? Thank you very much. Love this forum.

Hi vernonr,

This is normal behavior.

When you plug into the Carrier Input, you are disconnecting from the RM’s Carrier Oscillator, which is why the Frequency control no longer works. To get a better understanding the the RM in general, you might find it helpful to view my ‘Lord of the RingMod’ article on KnobTweak. In particular, there’s a block diagram on page 5 that shows the basic signal flow through the device - this alone may clear things up for you.

The article is available here:

KnobTweak > Files > Moogerfoogers > MF-102 Ring Modulator > Lord of the RingMod 2009.pdf

Hope this helps you to sort things out.

Yup normal as already stated.
This input is extremely useful to me, as I can send another synth in there, either playing the same MIDI file as the Slim Phatty that gets processed through the MF-102, or a MIDI file that makes the best “clangs” and bell tones.

I traded my MF-107 FreqBox for the MF-102 and I am so glad I did. The MF-102 oozes quality through and through. It just sounds brilliant, huge range of tones, very programmable and extremely tweakable. Its what synth/sound design aficionados like my self, long for.

Peace out.

Thank you very much guys! I love the mooger
