mf-107 voltage help needed

So here’s the situation.

I’ve got a Future Retro XS that’s sending pitch CV out to my MF-107 (1v/oct), I’m using it as another oscillator for the XS.

The problem is that the XS only responds to midi notes C2-C7. Because of this, the voltage coming out of the XS will only be at lowest C2. The 107 seems to be capable of being tuned higher for play back, but it SUCKS that I can’t use it to play low notes.

I tried using one of my CP-251s to try and attenuate the cv coming out of the XS before it got to the 107, thus making it respond w/ a lower pitch. I tuned the 107 w/ one of the XS oscillators to C4 and thought I was in business…

…but unfortunately that’s the only key the 107 can play in tune now. By attenuating the voltage, it isn’t tracking properly.

Where am I going wrong? If C4 is 4 volts (just using numbers I don’t actually know whats what or where the notation starts for CV), and I attenuate 1 volt down so that the 107 receives 3 volts, Everything is peachy, but then if I play E4, the 107 hits a note that’s definitely not E4. Not a drastic pitch change at all, sounds like it’s scaling off is all.

Thanks for any ideas anyone can provide, I’ll try playing it w/ more tonight.

figured it out!

xs cv output goes to the mixer, using offset you can make the voltage go lower and keep it tracking properly; the attenuator wasn’t doing anything productive in the negatives since the 107 only responds to positive voltage. now on to make analog-y goodness.

Way to go! man the 107 and the CP are one hell of a team! is there anything they cant do together?

…wish i had them

The 107 is the next thing on my list to purchase…as soon as Music Go Round has one in stock…again.

Yesterday I have ordered one of these future retro xs monosynth and I’ve planned using my 107 as a 3rd osc as well.

Ho do you like your XS?

looking forward getting some more information/exprience

The XS is the coolest semi-modular I’ve ever used. It is imo the modern Korg MS-20. To be honest I sold my Voyager RME for it (and a Revolution,) as I wanted something w/ a bigger sound palette, and the XS really delivers there(at the cost of having no patch saving ability.)

Beyond that though, w/ a MF-107 or two and a MF-101 alone you can pretty much emulate the beauty of a moog synthesizer w/ ease. I gotta tell ya that adding a 107 into the mix and using the XS oscs routed to the MF101 when I want 4-pole LP = heaven. The oscs are great on the XS, and totally analog, no encoders or anything like that. The XS is imo just as expressive as the voyager series, and packs just an obscene package of modulation and cv i/o. It fits VERY well w/ the moogerfooger line for this reason. As evidenced only being able to play C2-C7 via MIDI is annoying, but I think they did that for compatibility w/ the Revolution (which is crazy awesome w/ the Moog stuff too!)

So yeah, you chose wisely.

P.S., All of that said, selling my Voyager RME was painful, traumatic, and I don’t suggest anyone do it if don’t have to. My situation involved one path or another, and selling the RME but keeping all my of my foogers was the compromise. :stuck_out_tongue:

thanky you!

it is really an amazing thing - the XS with the MF-107.

also the little phatty with cp-251 and MF-107 and XS.

and since 4 days i am a proud owner of an Voyager OS - come ooooooooon.

so i will need also the VX-351 I guess and then…

so nice!

bye-bye
