Does anyone out there use the smoothed sample and hold LFO waveform on either their MF-104 or MF-108 moogerfoogers? If so, how do you access it? I’m trying to find an easier way!!
Yes. I use an iPhone with TouchOSC & MIDI Mobilizer2.
Thanks for that suggestion. I’ll look into that option. I have a query in to Moog’s technical staff to see how hard it would be to make this waveform available on the front panel. It’s my preferred mode on the Clusterflux, so I’d rather not use a midi controller at all. However, if they come back saying it’s impossible, then I’ll have to come up with something. I’m halfway tempted to just bite the bullet and get a One Trick Pony just so I can have the option on the click of a button and sort it out later if necessary.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you can have your solution programmed for the correct MIDI CC number and reaction, that’s not a bad price.
I was going to suggest the MIDI Solutions Pedal Controller, but its expensive, and needs an expression pedal as well.
A used small MIDI foot switch? You only need a momentary switch to send CC#70 Val.127. That may be a very simple DIY box..
I’m actually thinking along these lines now. The One Trick Pony is a nice simple solution, but it think I can whip something up that will be even more versatile.
Thanks for the brainstorming - that did help!
+1, especially if you already have an iPhone.
Lots of inexpensive apps available that would let let you do what you want to do (and a whole lot more…).
One question: is the midi mobilizer compatible with iPhone 5? Apple seems to have broken a ton of third party compatibility with the lightning connector. Booo!!
Can’t you just send the smooth random wave from the CP-251 to the TIME CV input of the MF-104M to get the same effect?
I suppose then you couldn’t set a tap rate for the LFO, but won’t this have a similar effect on the delay?
I’ve just ordered one and can’t wait to play with it and team it up with my Supa-Puss.
I’m not sure about the MIDI Mobilizer, but I know the iConnect MIDI works fine with my iPhone 5 and an Apple 30-pin / Lightning adapter ~
And the iConnect MIDI is a LOT more versatile than the iOS MIDI adapters that attach directly to the phone!

Two things:
-
lightning to 30-pin adapter is a no-go in my book. I know it’s just stubbornness on my part, but I prefer solutions that don’t end up looking like a kluge. I also fully admit this is more apple’s fault than anyone else’s.
-
every site I’ve looked on says the iconnect midi is no longer being made. Plus it’s huge!
I guess I should’ve said I wasn’t necessarily looking for the end-all be-all midi solution, I was looking for the quickest way to access that LFO waveform in performance situations. Thanks for all the ideas though.
I wonder if Moog (like you mentioned) could add a feature that when you hold the bypass button and turn the knob to random, the smooth random is activated.
Other ideas are to us a laptop & send the message. The line6 Midi Mobilizer 2 has its own app that you may be able to use - I haven’t tried it. I records MIDI messages as memos that you would then “play” to send the value.
Just in case you decide to do something with your iPhone 5 -
Apple’s Lightning adapter cable works quite nicely, and doesn’t require the adapter to hang right off the phone.
(I’m not real crazy about that particular setup myself.)
You’re right that the iConnect MIDI (original version) is no more ~
It’s been replaced by three other versions:
I believe Sweetwater is currently carrying the iConnectMIDI2+, which is the closest replacement for the original iConnect MIDI that I have.
While I can understand not wanting to deal with a bunch of peripherals, I don’t know that I would consider the iConnect MIDI2+ to be “huge” ~
it’s only about 4" x 2.75" x 1.5" … ![]()
For what it’s worth, using an iPhone or iPad based MIDI app could open up a LOT of possibilites for accessing the “under the hood” features of your Moog gear, and could be accomplished using very simple screen interfaces of just a few buttons and/or sliders.
