MF-101 scratchy CV input

I have an MF-101 that seems to have some scratchiness on the filter cv in. Whenever I use a pedal to sweep the frequency of the filter, I get a scratchy or static-y sound around the middle/ top of the throw. Manually tweaking the filter cutoff via the front panel knob results in a clean sweep.

I have tried it with other expression pedals and have got the same result, so I know it is not an issue with my EP-2. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if so, can it be fixed at home or do I need to make a Dr.'s appointment?

Sounds to me like a bad solder joint on the jack itself.

or just bad connection between jack and plug…spray in some contact cleaner and insert/remove the plug several times.

problem persists after cleaning? maybe a bad jack, jack solder joint or something else bad in the circuit. but at least you’ve ruled out dirty contacts as a possiblity

Yeah, that’s also possible. :bulb:

Could it be the cable that comes from the EP2 and the connection on the jack there as well.

I never liked my Ep1 because the whole thing is like paper and i always feared that the permanent cable would start shorting out.

That still would not explain why his other pedals are affected with the scratchiness, but that was my first thought as well. You’re starting to understand troubleshooting, EricK! That’s almost as awesome as Chuck Norris!

AH, I tend to post before I read the whole thing sometimes lol.
