i notice there’s a heartbeat/tick/click sound/noise when i use square wave in CP 251 LFO even when im not playing a note the sound or noise still there and it become more apparent when i set the MF 101 filter to 4-POLE, but when i use the triangle wave there’s no such a sound and also the sound/noise is gone when i combine the square wave with attenuator and set the attenuator at 12 o’clock other than that it start sounding again. Is it normal or there’s something wrong with my CP 251.
I’m a total newbie to moogerfoogers, any tips or setup to make a cool guitar sounds with 101+cp251? So far i only follow all setup in the manual.
Well, first I don’t see you specifying where to the LFO is connected, but my guess is that since a square wave each period gives an instantaneous jump to a high voltage, the click/noise/heartbeat comes from the MF-101 getting a sudden change of setting. A triangle wave changes setting smoother.
It’s hard to give advice when not knowing what kind of sound you strive for. One thing you could try is sending Env Out from MF101 to SampleAndHold trig and from S&H Out to MF101 Cutoff In or Res In.
How do you have it connected? I’m guessing you didn’t connect the CP-251 to the audio path right?
Effects are still going to change the sound going through your amp even when you’re not playing the instrument. If you click on a distortion pedal, you’ll hear more noise. When you click on a phaser, the phaser noise is still going through the amp when you’re not playing. You’re hearing a clicking noise because that’s what the waveform you’re using is doing. It’s a square wave. It gets quieter through the attenuator because that’s what an attenuator does. It lowers the level of something (audio or voltage).
It doesn’t sound like there is anything wrong specifically. It sounds like you need to go through the manual a few more times. Moog products aren’t something that you dial in quickly without understanding the workings behind it. You need to learn about CV and the different waveforms you’re using before you can properly use them.
so there’s nothing wrong with my gears? i only used setup from the manual so far such as connecting the lfo squarewave to attenuator or using four input mixer but everything involving the squarewave has heartbeat sound in the background. It’s just how it works with the squarewave or maybe i set it up wrong? I’m totally noob on this…
If you find the manuals a bit dry and difficult to understand, check out the training DVD. It’s not free, but may be very helpful. Especially if you plan on expanding your collection.
Seriously, music took a left turn back in the 80’s when digital madness took over. Things like oscillator stability, and the square wave LFO thing you’re noticing. You want pristine? Go digital. You want alive? Stick with analog. There’s nothing wrong with your gear, it will just take time to understand exactly what is happening when you plug certain combinations together. Keep at it bro and keep the questions coming.
