Is it possible to use the keyboard on my Little Phatty Stage II as a midi-keybaord in Ableton Live?
I figured out how to do it the other way around; MIDI to LPII.
But now I want to do the opposite. That way I could tweak the knobs while LP played programmed MIDI parts.
I cannot understand what you want to do. Do you want the knobs to control Live or the internal synt parameter while it is playing MIDI parts for Live ?
In the first case, LP MIDI OUT > PC/Mac MIDI IN.
In the later, PC/Mac MIDI OUT > LP MIDI IN, and tweak and that’s all.
I want to use my LP as a MIDI-keayboard through the USB.
for example; find a drum-machine plug-in in ableton and use the LP keyboard to play these sounds.
Sorry for not being clear enough… I dont know if you understand what Im trying to do this time either
Yes, but your knob tweaks would have to go through the computer and back to the phatty. Turn local control off on the phatty, send midi out to the computer. Have the note info from the phatty routed to the softsynth and the CC info from the phatty merged with the sequencer info routed back to the phatty through the midi in. Not the best because you will introduce latency and may notice some zippering. But, it might work just fine for your needs.
I dont think he cares about routing anything back to the phatty…
In ableton, make sure you have LP set up as an input device in the midi preferences tab. Make sure the (i think its called “control” or “track”) turned on in the midi preferences for the input. Make sure the phatty has local control off (or else the phatty will produce audio when you key it). Ableton should see the key strokes from the phatty at this point. Make sure you have the midi track armed to respond to midi from the phatty and you should be good to go.
