LP voltage-scaling problem

Does anyone here know if the LP scales it’s pitch at exactly 1 volt per octave, or is it perhaps something slightly less, like the micromoog was?

I’m having some difficulty getting it in tune when i use it with my analog sequencer. I’ve tried my best to calibrate the voltage output trimmer in the sequencer as close to 1v/oct as possible (voltimeter shows 0.97v @ C1, trimmer won’t go any further, so i’m going to assume it’s really 1v), but i’m still getting results where the phatty is consistently like 3+ semitones off key.

i should also mention this off key problem is not related to the phatty itself; i’ve made sure it’s in tune prior to connecting it to the sequencer.

any ideas/answers that might explain this?

I heard once from a knowledgable synth guy that all Moog synths were not exactly 1 volt per octave. I think that this was referring to the old days, not necessarily to the new NC made models.

Mind you, I have NO IDEA about what I am talking about here. I am just regurgitating something that I heard from a guy who should know what he is talking about.

I remember reading somewhere that the Voyager isn’t exactly 1V/Oct (the VX adjusts for this). I’d assume since the Voyager isn’t, the LP probably isn’t either.

The Voyager’s keyboard pitch voltage changes by 0.935 V/Octave according to the manual. I’m almost certain that the LP also isn’t 1 V/Octave but i’m not sure if it’s 0.935 V/Octave (I couldn’t find this info in my LP manual). I’ll find out next week and give an update.

BTW, Happy New Year!

awesome, thats very helpful, and should at least give me something to test with. Thanks, happy new year indeed!

i’ll post results as well now that i have a little more direction.

ok, so after tuning for an hour or so, scale by scale, i’ve troubleshot the pitch problem.

when you plug the V/Oct control from the mobius into the LP’s CV input (dunno if this happens with other sequencers, please post if you have similar experiences!), the pitch jumps up a semitone. This can royally screw up one’s perspective when not identified right away.

You can get around this with the mobius (dunno if it’s a problem elsewhere, but in case anyone is curious or is having similar problems) by pressing down the B key (octave settings didn’t matter, any B is OK!) on the Little Phatty (this drops it a semitone). This fixes the problem, and the rest is something you’ll just need to calibrate for with your sequencer. The best results actually came from having C1 @ 88.4 mV, which, if we take into account the little pitch thing that the LP does (again, i’m blaming the mobius until further notice, i don’t have any other sequencers to test this pitch glitch with), this probably would equal the same scaling as the Voyager, 93.5 mv/oct.

problem solved! i hoped this may have helped somebody other than myself.
