LP Tribute Ed. Firmware (and hardware) Upgrade Questions

Hi,

I got a wonderful LP Tribute Edition over the weekend (with the surprisingly low number of #169). Anyway, it is running on firmware v1.02 and the latest edition is v3.1 which I believe I cannot upgrade to with this LP in its current condition.

Therefore I have a few questions:

  • What is the ‘newest’ firmware that the LP Tribute Edition can be upgraded to, without any hardware upgrades?
  • Does anyone have access to firmwares older than the current v3.1?
  • Does anyone have a list of features added to the firmware prior to the current v3.1?
  • It is even possible for me to upgrade the hardware? (without damaging the gorgeous wooden side panels)

Thanks

I also send a mail to Moog and got answers to a lot of my questions.

Therefore (many of you probably already know this, but will share anyhow):

  • The newest firmware that the ‘stock’ Tribute can be upgraded to is 1.04T (any higher requires the RAM to be upgraded at the factory)
  • Moog sent me the file (LPTE104.syx), and I upgraded without any issues this morning.
  • It is possible to upgrade the tribute hardware without damaging the wood panels, the upgrade costs $145 (and I am certainly interested in doing this.

I do have some follow up questions:
  • I managed to locate the 1.03 OS manual. Does anyone know the feature delta between 1.03 and 1.04? (I haven’t noticed any)
  • Is there a 1.04 OS manual available anywhere?

Thanks

Wzup,

I have an all original LP tribute as well running 1.03tc. If I still have the os on my computer, I’ll get back to you by Wednesday evening. If I haven’t posted, then it’s because I couldn’t find it. Either way, email Amos at Moog with questions.

Btw, I’ll never mod my tribute. I just want it all original (slightly noisy signal and all… hell I like the way it sounds).

Spitfire.

I’ve got a tribute (no 125) for sale if anyone wants to make me an offer. UK based. Cheers.

Tribute owner here. I have the .pdf which accompanied 1.04 if you want it. Let me know and I’ll email it to you. Drop me a PM.

Based on the information contained in the single page .pdf, the only enhancement is the addition of AUTO to the EGR (envelope generator). To be honest with you, I didn’t realize that the issue existed until I looked into it but the AUTO setting is good if you do not need to do any precise tweaking while playing and are recording (or if you are obsessed with an absolute clean signal).

Also, if anybody is interested I have the pdf “manual” for the OS 2.0 addendum. I put “manual” in quotes because it’s ACTUALLY a manual; 20 pages.

New main ‘billed’ features that you get include:

  • LFO Synchronization
  • Tap Tempo
  • An advanced, highly flexible Arpeggiator function
  • Enhanced MIDI setup for US-equipped LPs

But if you delve into the details, there is also mention of the fact that MOD Wheel ‘now’ supports 14 bit Midi, a diagram of the new Menu structure, etc.

If you had the hw upgrade to your Tribute, then you are likely running the latest copy of 3.1 so this would not be of much interest. But if you collect such documents and like to have the history of the upgrades along the way, you might want this.

I wish that Moog left the entire archive of docs online. When they re-worked their web site, alot of this disappeared. But as mentioned on my post above, if you want the 2.0 manual, I’ll be happy to email it to you, just contact me with a PM.

When I bought my Tribute (2nd hand off eBay), it came with an envelope that was mailed to all original Tribute owners and it detailed the exciting new features of the “new” (at the time) features. It included a letter from Mike Adams dated April 3rd, 2007 that began:

**Dear Little Phatty Tribute Edition Owner:

Thank you for purchasing our Little Phatty. I hope you are enjoying it. Many of you were early purchasers of this great new synth and most of you probably know that we recently released the production model of the Little Phatty - the Stage Edition.**
(it then delves into the improvements of 1.03 which were numerous… and closes with the following text)

Personally, I was so excited about the job our engineering team did to incorporate this new feature into the Tribute Edition that I am enclosing a 20 page user manual addendum which covers all the new functions and the master menu. This is also my thanks to those of you who registered you LP.

Enjoy and thank you for supporting Moog!

I’m not sure that they knew at the time that they would eventually be producing a series of new Foogers, Taurus 3, the Voyager XL, the beginnings of Series 500 modules, and a number of well received IOS Apps not to mention a UAD Filter Plug-in and the driving force behind MoogFest; but as an American, I can say proudly that this is the sort of pride and innovation that America was built on. Moog is one heck of a company; long live the legacy of Bob.
