LP Stage II - Arpeggios sequenced in Pro Tools

I want to play the Moog’s arpeggiator, sequenced in Pro Tools HD8. I have it working where the LP starts and stays in sync with PT even if I change tempo, but as soon as I hit a note or change chords, the LP strays from the midi clock.

What am I missing?

Thanks a lot

John

what do you have the arpg clock set to in the advanced presets menu? if it is set to internal it will drift, if its set to midi or external it should stay in sync, and im not talking about LFO clock. part of the beauty of analog synths in this world of PT8 and logic and Live and Reason and every thing else, is the imperfections of the analog circuit, its drift, and the harmonics that can be created by being just barely out of sync. maybe instead of getting it perfect get it as close as you can * its just an arpeggiator, in protools you can always beat detective it to make it land on the grid but there is really nothing creatively musical about sticking to a grid 100% of the time just like there is nothing musical about a 2 button mouse

you’re so right about all that stuff. I guess the Moog isn’t capable of it right now anyway but according to Tech Support, they are planning to add it.

As far as the ethical stuff, my stance is this: If I can do it, that’s the take I want. I don’t want to record with the idea of hanging over my CPU screen, hacking and editing later in Pro Tools. Record - Stop - do it again or not?

It just sounds way better syncd to the midi clock. It starts off that way?! Plus, I can feel free to ride the knobs knowing the arp is rocking in time! Anyway, thanks for the reply.

the LP arp re-synchronizes when you remove all fingers from the keys and then press a “new” key - the notes will start at the very moment you press the new key. So to stay in time with MIDI clock you need to always play notes exactly in time… or play legato, being sure to always overlap (play next new note before lifting finger from previous note).

The Taurus arpeggiator is a bit smarter about this… I am still refining my arpeggiator code. Next time I work on the Little Phatty, I will try to incorporate some of my new ideas from the Taurus arp, including better MIDI sync behavior.

Cheers,
