well, i was thinking to get a slim phatty to use with a little phatty but i have some doubts about how set up with moogerfoogers and others effects…that are all mono in. If i control via midi the slim phatty with little phatty and then send audio of slimphatty to audin external in of little phatty i will have only one general mono out, but the sound of slimphatty will be filtered both of its filter and lp’s filter. So, how will you configure a setup Lp + Sp + mono in effects?
A lot of inexpensive basic mixers have Aux sends for effects loops. The ones to look for are ones with Pre-fader sends. This means you can input your LP + SP signals into two separate channels but send them both mixed on the Aux send to the Moogerfoogers.
I usually send the return of my moogerfoogers back to a channel so I can use EQ too, but then you have to make sure the Aux send you use for the effects return channel is down, or else you can get really serious feedback (which some people like a lot for noise music). The advantage to this method is that you can have the LP+SP faders down, so you can hear ONLY the processed signal, or you can control the mix by increasing the LP+SP faders and decreasing the effects return. Some mixers have two aux sends, so you can do parallel effects processing.
One of the coolest things I’ve found w/ the LP+SP combo is playing both of them on the same patch, but with the outputs panned hard right and hard left - it gives you an incredible stereo field. And if you de-tune one slightly it gets really massive. It’s also fun to combine different presets - especially ones with different intervals and attack times to get some nicely evolving sounds.
I use a small beringher mixer…it has efx send output, so i think it could make the trick! about panning, do you pan the 2 channel used for the inputs right?
I don’t think there are any rules on how to pan - it depends on what you’re going for. I’d probably pan the LP left, the SP Right and the effects return in the middle. But it could sound good other ways too. The best is to experiment.
