hello everyone, i’ll admit i am fairly new to logic but even with the help of online tutorials i can’t for the life of me get my little phatty to either record notes through midi in logic or control a logic soft instrument
this looks like a basic midi configuration problem but i just can’t figure it out
i’m using a NI Audio Kontrol interface with MIDI in/out connected.
trying to record the phatty i do in logic:
create an external midi track
create an auxiliary channel strip
up the volume on aux channel (i now hear the phatty through audio)
select in media library my midi interface (audio kontrol 1 out) set to channel 1
on the phatty set midi in:1 midi out:1
arm the external midi track in logic and hit record
the audio comes out but no midi notes are recorded
trying to play logic instrument via phatty keyboard:
create software instrument
load for example EVP88
arm the track
i play notes but nothing comes out of EVP, looks like no midi is being transmitted
have i overlooked something in logic? or is there a setting in phatty that needs change?
(btw the phatty midi out works fine when hooked up to my nord rack, and logic start stop works on my 909..so must be something in between phatty & logic )
Ok, are you trying to send audio via MIDI? That does not work. Can’t do it; don’t try it. Create an Audio Track, and run the LP in through the sound card via the Audio Out.
Are you using a Stage II? I would recommend just using USB if that is the case. If not, make sure to go to global settings and make sure you are sending MIdi out via Din.
Either way, you should make sure that you can a) play Phatty into Logic (perhaps with Software instrument to see that Midi is working that way) and b) see about manually entering a Midi not sequence (or copying one in) and playing TO your Phatty. You should see an array looking character to the left of the patch name on the Phatty display.
If neither or either are not working, you are having midi issues. Regardless of interface type.
I have Logic 8 and it’s a nightmare (lots if issues/bugs especially with the Little Phatty). Not sure how much was resolved/made easier in Logic 9, certainly it looks nicer and has fancy amp simulation/guitar pedals, etc. The basic seem to be out of reach for the newly initiated.
Do spend the time and soak up as much of the video tutorials as you can. If you live in a major city with an Apple store, invest in the $99 for one-to-on IF and ONLY IF they have a good Logic person.
Thanks guys, i got it working through midi by restarting logic / phatty / audio interface, the problem does recur and i haven’t yet figured out where or what in the chain causes the bug. there is zero issues when using usb/midi but i prefer using regular midi through my interface although i’m having issues this way..
ok i’ve been using the phatty through usb midi with success however logic isn’t recording pitch bends?
sends cc’s in master preferences is on and the modwheel records automation no problem so anyone know what the deal is??
