Lord of the Ring Mod

Hey all.

I just got the moog ring mod as an early christmas gift. glee

I’ve been searching this forum looking for a way to sync the pitch of it’s oscillator to a Korg MS-10… (which is hz/volt cv, I believe).

Multiple threads on here link to the article “Lord of the Ring Mod”… but the page doesn’t seem to work at the moment.
https://www.moogmusic.com/members/?section=files&file_section=4&cat_id=32&sortxxx=order%20by%20id%20DESC
For me… the page says “The Moog Space section of the site is not currently being supported.” Does anyone else get this?

Anyhow… I’d love to read that article. Please let me know if you can help! Thanks.

Not certain that the MS-10 produces a Hz/V output, but if it does then you won’t be able to synchronize the pitch of the RM oscillator. The RM’s oscillator is a V/oct response type (it’s not exactly one volt - it’s more like .75V/oct).

While it’s possible to convert one type of CV response to another, the trouble and expense of doing so probably isn’t worth it just to get the RM to track.

That said, the RM oscillator will still respond to an external CV, so no harm in trying it. Go for it - you might enjoy the results!

thanks, Greg, for the quick reply.

so… it seems that I either need an array of converters $$$…

or I should just get a freqbox and sync it…

just trying to see how far i can stretch the ring mod. the korg ms-10 has only one oscillator, the option of a second oscillator would have been awesome. regardless… the ring mod is dope! it works well as a tremolo on the rhodes.

u need a freqbox next christmas. I think its VCO will make your MS10 VCO sound very small. Not knocking it - its a wonderful synth - but the freqbox sounds huge

I bought my Ring Mod specifically because my RHodes trem pot no longer functions. I use it for SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST THAT THOUGH!

For what its worth, I think its easier to get the RingMod to track than it is the Freq and I think that it tracks over a much wider range and more stable than the Freq (especially in the higher octaves. Ive only had my voyager for a few months, but I was using the RIngmod and the Freq to track…and using the instructions from the LOTRM article it took about twice as long to get the Freq to properly track the Micro.

Hi, first post. I’m also looking for TLOTRM article. Had my RM for about a year & a half and obviously love it. My CP-251 will be here soon!

The LOTRM article will be available online soon.
More details to come…

I have it laying around.
Is it ok if I host it on my server or not?

Will the LotRM article be available soon??

Just send me a PM with your mail addy so i can send you the article…

An updated version is in the works, and should be available very soon.

The updated version of LOTRM is now available on KnobTweak.

I have wondered where to find this as well. Today was the day I got to finally read it! KnobTweak taught taught me a few MoogerFooger tricks today!

Glad you found LOTRM helpful. Since you also own a MuRF, be sure to check out the MF-105 folder on KT for some new settings, cool tips and neat tricks.

Keep tweaking!

I made a folder just for KnobTweak and downloaded all the files and templates I could find referring to any and all Moogerfoogers.

There is a lot of great, well documented info in there! I especially liked the Wave Warping tricks and the Chorus ideas. I excited to add some of my own crazy tricks to the list someday.

Take your time and methodically work through the material - don’t try to digest it all at once. As you go through it, you will probably discover your own ideas of how to use the gear effectively, as well as thinking of new things to try.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. See you on KT!

Don’t worry too much about me

I have been making patches on these for over a year now, with an emphasis on extreme CV modulation for use in electronic music creation. I took my time, bought every pedal separately with enough time to learn what each pedal does on it’s own. I love every jack on these pedals and have a good start on my way to understanding everything they can offer as a modular group.

I do still have a lot to learn and take every bit of knowledge and diagram seriously and will give it enough time for me to understand what it is doing and how it does it.

I am starting to build my own boxes because of this journey as well. That has been great fun so far! I made a multiple box with 43 jacks on it (in different groupings) that converts cable styles with switching jacks. I just recently modded my TR-606 to have trigger/gate inputs and then assembled a Midi to Trigger kit from Highly Liquid to control it. I am gearing up to build a sequencer as well, but that is a huge project that I will have to dissect into sections in order to make sure it is all working properly. I also just started research for creating my own ideal vocoder design. I like to keep busy
