so ive been shopping around for a stand alone drum machine lately. i really like the how the electribes are set up, and im looking for something similar to that, but i do not have 300 bones to spend right now. any suggestions? im pairing this with my little phatty stage 2 if that is any help. i havent shopped for a drum machine in years. thanks for your time in advance.
I’d like to offer the totally useless opinion that you should be pairing the Phatty with a higher class drum machine like an Elektron or Jomox, or low end MPC if you only want samples to go with that analog goodness. These machines have character and want to be played. Generic drum machines less so. Sorry, just saying you should keep looking at the skies even if you can’t go there.
ive never been fond of the word should when it comes to music. you keep your rules. i dont want em ![]()
What I meant was “thank me later”, not should. ![]()
well… if you can find me a machinedrum for 300 bucks, then i will thank you.
Good luck getting a good, fresh drum machine for $300.
Have you seen the MFB-522? It’s $125 more than what you’re asking for, but you might fall in love.
never heard of that drum machine. hmmmm. if i do not find something i like in the next two weeks, i might have enough money by then to get one of those. hmmmm. decisions decisions!
I use an e-mu command station to sequence my LP, external drum machines, and it’s own internal engine. Usually $250 to $300. Works like a champ.

Unfortunately, the sequencer stores up to 1024 patterns and 512 songs.
it says the above quote in the description. is that a typo? why would that be a bad thing? is it supposed to say fortunately ya think?
found one for 200 bucks with free shipping. looking into it now.
i found a E-MU MP-7 COMMAND STATION for 200 bucks, and i just found a electribe mxsd for 300 bucks. i can afford either or. debating. not sure which one i want.
what do you all think about roland mc307s? found one of those also
Get an elektron on credit and dont buy any luxuries for how long it takes to pay it off, eat only rice and oats and dont leave the house, if you dont have enough money you dont have another option. OK ![]()
sorry. the elektron sounds kind of boring 2 me for some reason. ill look up more videos for it.
the possibility of the elektron machinedrum is almost endless and if you take the time to figure everything out, it can emulate almost all the vintage drum machines and more. i use the machinedrum with mbase and mbrane to give it the analog boost.
im dumb. i confused the elektron with a diff drum machine. the machinedrum is awesome. i just cant afford that right now.
found a electribe for 300 bucks. barely used. probably going to go with that for now. debating.
The Electribe is a fine machine. (decent sequencer, some good sounds, some knob tweaking possible).
I was about to say, if you were even considering the Machine Drum, you should look at the high end Jomox units for $1,200. But obviously $$ might be the first consideration.
I bought a Jomox XBase 09 which as a pure analog Bass drum and Snare and samples for the other instruments. The good part is that it can a) sequence external sounds/notes like a voyager based drum sound b) send midi notes for the standard bass drum, etc which I use to trigger my Alesis DM5 rack, and c) will play midi notes so for instance, I have some Vdrum pads connected to the DM5 and when I strike the pad, the trigger into the DM5 sends midi out to the Jomox for the analog Bass drum. It’s a good setup and something you can build up.
But the sequencer should be the #1 important priority.
awesome. thanks for the info.
I have a large collection of analog drum machines that I really enjoy, but the Korg ER-1 is an excellent little machine, and though it’s not truly analog, it’s one of my favorites. It might be the most intuitive and versatile drum machine I have ever used. The original ER-1 can be bought on eBay for around $150-170, I wouldn’t bother with the newer more expensive Korg models. It’s the poor man’s Machine Drum I guess. ![]()
just picked up a brand new korg electribe mx for 300 bucks cash off craigslist. the guy had used it for maybe 15 minutes total. he bought it new.
jamming out as we speak. not touching the manual till tomorrow.
I’ve got a brand spanking new Akai MPC500 I’d let go for $450.
