Little Phatty VST Editor Setup in Ableton

I cant get the LP Stage II to behave well in Ableton at the moment. I was having trouble with sending MIDI data to the LP so I went ahead and bought the VST Editor. Unfortunately it isn’t working. I can get the Moog to play but I cannot get the VST editor to work. Can anyone help me out with this (preferably using the Ext. Instruments plugin for Ableton to avoid using many tracks in my sequencer)?

Thanks for your help! Excited to be a part of the Moog family!

Hi, are you using Ableton Live on Mac or PC? There’s a new ac version that seems to work quite well in Ableton; the new PC version is still buggy and not ready for release.

Using the current version, you should be able to do most things in Live on PC… set up one track with Ext. Instrument for your Phatty, then a second MIDI track for the VST Editor.
Using the current version of the VST Editor you may need a third MIDI track just to route MIDI in and out, as in this screen shot:

You might be able to create a Rack to host all these tracks, and then save the Rack for use in future projects. That could save some screen space, too.

Cheers,

Amos

I have the same problem.

The editor works also for the Slim Phatty, doesnt it ?

@ Amos
So you have an “External instrument” on your track “2 MIDI” ?
I use Live 8.2.1 on Windows 7 64 Bit.
My slim phatty is connected via USB and I have created the setup like you.

On “2 MIDI” I have created an “External Instrument” that is configured as:
MIDI To: Slim Phatty
Audio From: Analog IN [5] auf my audio interface

Everything works fine… I can play the phatty and get the sound…
As soon as I select “1-VST Little Phatty Editor” for the MIDI From drop down menu of “2 MIDI” track - I cannot play the moog anymore.

i am able to send data to the little phatty correctly (i.e. i can change the cutoff freq. via the software); however, i am unablet to recieve patch information from the LP. so every time i open up the editor it looks like a blank patch. the “get patch” feature does not really work. also, the way it is integrated into ableton is very annoying. i cannot configure the MIDI control in ableton to automate any of the parameters! this renders the VST editor almost useless for my purposes. any one have any ideas?

How would we go about obtaining the new version for the Mac? I can’t seem locate an update anywhere on the Moog or Rekon Audio site.

Thank you!

+1 What Orion says…

There have been recent posts on the Ableton Forum regarding this issue… Maybe we should get some kind of petition together regarding this..?

Peace, love and flowers…

Alright guys… NEW MAC VST/AU available… I just got it to work inside Ableton Live (Wasn’t easy but got it to work!! )… works perfectly with my Slim Phatty.

Mr. Amos,

Still waiting for that .fxb Slim Phatty factory preset file. Please do not forget.

Thanks.

I’m kinda annoyed to see myself type this, but way to drop the ball moog.

Hiring someone to make a VST that doesn’t support one of the most widely used DAWs available? I don’t know the state of affairs of other analog synths and how they utilize interaction with a computer but mere competition alone should not be used as a benchmark in how you set the standards for your own product.

Patience my friend, patience…

patience rewarded!

Here’s the Slim:

Best things come to those who wait…

Thanks Amos!!! Your are most helpful!

Hola!! I use this plugin for Max for Live in Ableton for control (automate) my Little Phatty St2 http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=190

Any news on a version that works with Ableton on Windows? Glad I read up about this before buying it. Trying to test, troubleshoot, and get it to work with this demo dialogue popping up every 30 seconds is driving me mad though.

Any news on a working version for Ableton on Windows?

Even with the beta AU version that Amos sent me, I am quite disappointed that I spent $69 on this.

Hmmm, I heard rumours saying that Rekon Audio will be releasing a proper version that will support the lastest Little Phatty OS.

I hope those rumors are true! If it worked properly, it would be great!

I have read Amos’s explanation of how to get around this which involves 2 midi tracks but i’m sure the creaters of the software did not intend it to be used like that?? am i wrong?
I think the editor was designed toi be used on one channel.
My situation with one channel and an audio of course so i can hear it is this:
i can control the editor with the LP but cant control the LP with the editor! which means it is not sending midi back to the LP! There is also a midi plugin native to ableton called external instrument and that works fine but it lacks the ability to tweek parameters like the VST is supposed to do.
I’m also at a loss as to where to put the .fxb presets that came with the LP VST editor, i have put them in the same folder as the VST component BUT it doesnt seem to register on the VST it just says blank preset 1-100.

I’m really disapointed with this VST editor it simply doesnt do what it said it would do easily.

Can anyone share with me their experiences or give me some feedback?
