I notice sometimes, depending on the patch maybe?, when I’m using and experimenting with the Little Phatty Stage II CV with the CP-251 the controls on the Little Phatty Stage II “lock up”. Meaning I notice that sometimes, when I’m tweaking the patch the knobs and switches on the Little Phatty Stage II will become inactive and none of the knobs or switches are usable, you can not tweak them, and its not until I tweak the CP-251 again somehow that the controls on the Little Phatty Stage II will then again be active and tweakable.
Do certain patches when using the Little Phatty Stage II CV with the CP-251 cause the Little Phatty Stage II to “lock up” where the knobs and switches are no longer active until you tweak the patch again somehow and the controls on the Little Phatty Stage II are then active again? Has this ever happened to any of you?
By the way I am running the arpeggiator on the Little Phatty Stage II and using it with the CP-251, when this happens.
How fast are you running the LFO on either the LP or 251? If the LFO is set above a certain level while the arp is running, the LP gets confused and freezes. This problem should have been fixed via software update. What OS are you running?
funny, actually yes, the lfo(s) I noticed would be pretty high up there! So funny and so great that you know what I am talking about! I am glad to have this forum.
My Little Phatty Stage II is running OS Version: 2.21S
It is the “CV” version with both the CV Inputs AND Outputs and I bought it a year ago on January 8th, 2011.
We do share that philosophy and I avoid MIDI as much as I can. I may have updated the firmware once, not even sure about that, although I have loaded the different presets of older versions a few times, finally settling for those of the Tribute Edition.
My LP has version 2.00S. It does everything I need. I don’t have the CV outs though, I think they require a more recent firmware, but again, not a concern to me. No problems with LFO CV’s from the CP-251, no matter what rate.
No MIDI cable needed on a Stage II. That was why I upgraded my Stage I with the new side panel. A standard USB cable from the computer to the LP will suffice.
From Amos- OK, here is the Little Phatty Stage Edition update pack.
This should work for all LP Stage and Stage II synthesizers.
Please read the README file completely before performing the update.
IIRC, the LFO/arp problems arose in later software updates, 2.xx. Can’t recall exactly when. I have had my Stage I since OS 1.03C (#1326) so…I have gotten every single update since. Getting the Stage II side panel was the best thing I did…my M-Audio UNO doesn’t like me.
@portamental, thanks for the info! interesting, I have had 3 different Phatty’s, one was was the TE and I always thought the Stage II presets were better and were my favorite! Nice though! Very interesting! Thanks again for the info!
@ voltor07, thanks so much for the info! really appreciate it!
Gonna try to update the OS on my Phatty Stage II to the latest version ASAP!
So much fun using the Little Phatty Stage II CV with the CP-251! Like a “mini” Moog modular system in its own right! : )
re Presets : it’s a matter of taste, musical style and very possibly generation
The LP was my first Moog, but there was an Old School after that, and a D, and about half the catalogs of the seventies combined. I like them vintage even if if cost a lot to keep them in good shape.
At any rate, I feel I have neglected it a bit over the last couple of years. Every time I turn it on, i am reminded on how much I love this machine. It’s the one I played the most this week, in great part because of you
A Voyager OS, wow! So lucky! I’ve always wanted one pretty bad! still, it reminds me how much I ALSO love my Little Phatty Stage II so much! Also, that is another reason why I’m so excited about the Minitaur, cause I’ve always wanted a no-preset Moog (Voyager OS) and the Minitaur basically takes that concept with some different twists and puts it in a affordable price range! Can’t wait to tweak the Minitaur!
Also wanted to mention that I always did love the “Thank you Bob” preset sound! I used it and tweaked it a lot for “leads” But it did seem like the TE had a lot of “lead” style presets and the Stage II had more “bass” style presets, which I love. But they are all truly beautiful!
Same here. It did not impress my that much at first. But since hearing it, I have tried everything to get more bass out of the OS. Just not the same. The LP i find is a better bass synth than the Voyager, but the Minitaur is a knob job, no presets nor LCD display, and lots of CV’s in. Me like. Me want.
Come to think of it, the LP is my only synth with presets. While I prefer OS style, it’s a plus sometimes to be able to change sounds at the turn of a single knob, especially since I have replaced half the TE bank with my own sounds.
