Little Phatty Stage 2 displaying lines like " Q¨ ¨n# d4"

I have a LP Stage 2 that didn’t take well to the Firmware update. I wonder if somebody could confirm the behavior and the repair procedure.

  • All text apart from the Master Menu displays lines like " Q¨ ¨n# d4" .
  • Playing the keys emits high pitch sounds.
  • The sound still changes when you tweak some parameters, though you get random results.
  • It’ll still respond to Sysex input, but at the end you get an update failed line.
  • After managing to wipe the firmware to the point where it just booted and asked to send a firmware, it accepted the 3.1 firmware.

Now I’m back to where I started. I get the same kind of messed up behavior after removing and reinstalling the firmware.

Is it now technically bricked? As in, the only way to fix it is with a Silabs USB Debug Adapter.
Or is it just an issue of finding the right speed to send the Sysex?

Other issues I’ve seen where people call it bricked, mention the screen being blank. Mine isn’t.
So I felt I should ask before I open the thing and potentially do more damage.
The Moog Update readme is clear that something may go wrong. But the troubleshooting section is not extensive enough and doesn’t cover my specific issue. I’m not sure how many different kinds of update issues there are.

Cheers,

Hi,

The same thing happened to me. I just did a system reboot and it worked for me. I lost all my presets, but that’s not too big a concern for me.

Hmm. Pretty sure I tried the reset from the menu.
The Master Menu is the only menu that is still readable.

I also tried powering it on with the Master button pressed. And sending Sysex after it wiped the firmware.
Is there so power on reset button combination I’m missing?

I’m sorry for all the questions, my current search results are confusing. It looks like there’s a different procedure depending on which version it shipped with, but I can’t recall which version that was.

You may have to contact tech support. When it happened to me, only the presets were messed up, so I was still able to reboot it with factory settings. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help. :frowning:
