Little Phatty practical Poly count

Hello all! I’m a long time electronic-musician happily diving into my first new and used Moog purchases.

How high can the number of notes scale with the current implementation? From the wonderful video examples of MIDI filter based polyphony, a limit of 4-5 notes has been shown. However, while the implementation is intended to scale to 8, there have been some reported instances of failure to filter notes appropriately, as well as a dependency on MIDI Thru latency to stay within certain minimum bounds.

I couldn’t find any examples higher than the one with Jordan Rudess playing n=5. I have three Slims and a LIttle Phatty and I’m wondering if I’m at the practical limit with todays limits due hardware and process variation.

thanks!
John

Hmm… OK, So does anyone has an n=5 running on a regular basis? I am assembling n=4 and am curios how high folks go with this. I love the sound of these Phatty’s! My white LP is so beautiful!

I only know of this n=4 demo video by Moog, never seen a bigger polychain in action: http://www.moogmusic.com/sight-and-sound/product_demo/how-set-slim-phatty-poly-chain

I’m guessing not many people do this then. Odd, I bought it exactly for this  It won’t play out, but it will be fun! I was floored by this youtube by firechild.se http://youtu.be/Exmrb1ce7aM sooooo sweeett!

Hey,

I’m pretty sure I’ve recently seen that Moog themselves have a stack of Slim Phattys - like 10 or so, in a big 19" rack. Maybe I saw it in one of the recent Moog Soundlab videos?

EDIT: This is what I was talking about (a rack of 9 Slim Phattys): https://www.facebook.com/MoogSoundLab/photos/a.233217136724387.54793.221750367871064/699519153427514/?type=1&theater

I’ve always thought that you could chain up to 16 units - it’s in some threads on these forums, and it might be in the manual too. Perhaps email Moog Music about it and possible MIDI issues that may arise etc.

I have a three-voice poly chain myself (LP St. II → Slim P → Slim P).

@dave - great facebook picture. Nice! 9 Slim Phatty’s. I haven’t seen that in the sound lab before. They have a few installations that look built for purpose. I have three SF’s and a LP in poly mode. It sounds so fat! With v3.2 the note assignment is much better than 3.12. Once I work through tuning and being a novice, then another 4 SP’s may well my target.

I believe I saw 16 either in the manual or in the interface while setting it up. What an exciting feature!
