little phatty poly chain LFO sync issues

Hi gang,

i’m borrowing someones LP stage II and have wired it to my stage 1 to create 2 voices of bliss. Everything is cool apart from the LFO’s go out of sync with each other. for example, a heavy dub-step wobble turns into a mess, like it’s going through a delay. is there a way to recalibrate the LFO, or take advantage of the clock syncing function to get the lfo’s in perfect sync?

Cheers,

Andrew

Hello Andrew!

There is a LFO Sync option in the Master menu. You can choose internal or MIDI. I am not sure if that helps in your setup.

Hi, thanks for your response. no, sadly the LFO sync options have no effect; that’s the first place i went to rectify the problem. i’ve tried the LFO syncing to midi, but nothing. when i change the CLK DIV: rate on both internal or midi, it has no effect to the LFO(s) on either LP?

Unless i’ve done something wrong, the LFO syncing issue definitely limits the potential of poly chaining multiple moogs.

I am not sure if this will work since I only have one Phatty. But …

The newest OS has LFO retrigger under the advanced preset menu. Set all Phatties to a patch with retrigger and mash as many keys as phatties at once. Now that they are all retriggered at the same time, you should be able to switch back free running or a patch with a free running LFO an have them in sync.

Also, if hooked up to a master midi clock and the LFO set to midi sync a restart command on my sequencer would retrigger the LFO. I am not sure if this will be passed through to the others in the chain. If it does it would be possible to sync the LFOs without mashing a bunch of keys.

Another note, there are global LFO settings and per preset LFO settings in the menu. The Global is on one of the 1st Tier screens, the per preset settings are under the Advanced preset menu.

I am terribly ignorant of MIDI, but shouldn’t something like Andrew suggested be available? I had the similar letdown when I chained all my Phattys together. Again, bear in mind ignorance of MIDI, but shouldn’t (for example) the Little Phatty be able to generate the MIDI clock and pass it down the chain to the Slim Phattys so that everyone’s LFOs were synched?

The rate can definately be clocked by MIDI. The difficulty comes into getting all the LFOs in phase.

Cool - thanks. Could I use an MP-201 to control the LFOs on 4 Phattys and keep them synced?

Even if you use ADVANCED PRESET → LFO KB TRIG: ON ?
I haven’t tried that together with external MIDI so I am just asking …

I should have written, the lfo phases are difficult to sync for free running LFOs.
Keyboard trig on should sync the phase of the LFOs if all the phatties are trigger to play a note at the same time. Rate sync should not be an issue if all phatties are set to MIDI sync.
There should simply be a button that could retrigger all the LFOs in the phatty chain regardless of the clock source or lfo run type (free or retrigger), the way a sequencer restart command does.

Thanks a ton - admittedly, pretty much all of that is over my head. If I get the gist of it though, sounds like it is possible to set up.

I have some serious reading up on MIDI to do…I’m a guitar player who has only just started to delve into analog synths!

I appreciate the help - looks like you’re a great contributor to this forum!

Hey guys, can somebody confirm the tip given a few posts before works?
Or maybe the latest OS version takes care of this?..

Thanks!

I was unable to get this to work, so I’m interested in the answer as well…

Sorry if I appear to insist: have you tried t oset the LFO RESET = ON on every Little/Slim?

It’s been so long honestly I don’t remember what all I tried. Everything except for my 37 is all packed away right now or I’d check.

And without speaking of this LFO sync problem, did you enjoy the polychaining well with the latest OS version? Or was it still a bit clumsy?

I have nothing accessible to poly chain it to… :frowning:

I moved back to the states and since I’m in a temporary spot, most of my stuff is packed away. I have the Sub 37 only because it came out after I moved back. (I have a Prophet '08 rackmount but we’re talking about sweet Moog-on-Moog action, here…)

Ok, thanks! If your remind anything, let me know
