I just bought a used Little Phatty Stage Edition and had a couple of questions. First, the data value knob is completely loose, meaning I can pull it up and move it around, like it’s not mounted internally. It sort of works, but is flakey… so when changing presets or settings it will sometimes get stuck on a value or pass three or more at once. Pretty hard to use like this! Is this possible to fix myself or should I send it in for repair?
Also (this is my second Phatty), what happened to the OS2 upgrade on moogmusic.com? I swear I remember being able to download the update from Stage I to Stage II about a year ago… was this pulled for some reason?
I can’t really answer your other query, but yes they do still have the update on the website.
Go to products>Little Phatty>Little Phatty Stage II, then go to the Software tab and it’s right there.
On the data knob inquiry, I’m afraid that it’s soldered to the main board (or at least should be !!). I wouldn’t entertain trying to fix this on your own unless you are adept and circuit board repair. It’s pretty tight in there and worse yet, all of the pots are nutted to the front panel and that has to be removed in order to get at the component.
The Phatty at my local Guitar Center had the same issue. I suppose the temptation to rotate the knob with one finger is just too great and this one particular component takes a beating.
Give Moog Support a call, they’ll likely fix it for you for a fair price.
My push encoder failed today as well. It has always been a bit wobbly, since I purchased my stage used a couple years ago. I have enough function to be able to save my presets, no push button action at all, just spotty rotation response. Time to contact moog. I wish there was a more robust replacement part. I have to get together the funds for the full overhaul since it is being shipped to the factory. CV out mod, keys cleaned and stage 2 squish pad added under the keys, LHC tightened or replaced, Filter section pot tightened or replaced.
i have the same problem , the value knob is not working for triggering the arpeg fuction… it’s still working to increase or decrease values but not when you push it…
