I’ve just purchased a Moog Voyager rackmount version.
I used to own a Little Phatty but sold it because there was no LFO midi sync as well as LFO restart when a new note was pressed.
I realise now that with the hardware upgrade the Little Phatty can do this
But can the Voyager?
IE:
Can I send the LFO to the filter and automate the lfo rate either in midi sync or manually and programme that wobble bass + does the voyager have that LFO not restart feature. This is an essential feature for me,
Hope I explained this properly, thanks in advance for any replies
Automating the Filter frequency doesn’t have quite the same effect. No matter how meticulous I programme a filter to do wobble stuff it just doesn’t have the same effect as automating the Lfo rate/frequency sent to the filter. I need to automate a blend of midi synced and manual LFO on a bassline or synth phrase Wah wah wah in time (midi synced) and then you do sections that are off time (but in time sort of) using manual LFO speed giving a faster wawwawwwwwwaaaw effect. And to achieve this the lfo has to have the ability to also reset with each new not played.
Are you really sure about what your saying though? I find it incredibly hard to believe there is no midi lfo sync in
a Moog voyager, or that i cant at least automate the lfo manually to achieve the same results (providing LFO was reset with each new note). It was added in the Little Phatty stage 2 or if someone has a stage 1 it can upgraded. Its also easily do-able on many analogs, especially the newer ones made these days.
I’m not sure what a VXL is ?
Disappointing to say the least as that style is so important for what I do
That’s simple, set the LFO sync to NOTE. MIDI will reset it on a clock signal. I think it’s quarter notes. When you use it like this, it’s more like an envelope with a variable rate.
Your question is a bit confusing as you say you want MIDI sync, but then to be able to re-cycle the LFO signal?
A Voyager XL, it has two LFOs and one syncs to MIDI Clock, not just a reset. I see you said RME in your OP.
One approach is to get a Kenton MIDI to CV device, or similar, which has a digital LFO built in. Then make it control your modulations via control voltages.

That initially sounded hopeful but when you say it will reset on a clock cycle I have a feeling that wont do.
I dont mean to be confusing Im just used to doing this with VSTs. On many VSTs the lfo knob can switch from midi synced to manual which can be automated. So lets say I have a 2 bar bass line. Some of it may be tempo midi synced at say 1/8 or 1/16 for the first bar and a half but for the last half bar or so I would automate from the midi synced LFO to manual LFO and draw in rates to give that loose but cool effect on the bass line. Of course the lfo is always sent to the filter.

yes Im sure that would work. I was just hoping this could be done with the synth its self. I don’t mean to be anti Moog, but this is kind of basic stuff and real analogs that are much cheaper (new ones) do this such as the DSI range. I would rather not have to spend more money. Fair enough though, life isn’t always plain sailing.
Chances are we’re talking digital LFOs in the DSIs then.
Its easy to set up MIDI Clock sync in the design of a synth when the LFO is digital (Little Phatty), but I can’t think of a synth with an analogue LFO that is syncable (not just resetable) to MIDI Clock right now.
I dont have the Voyager yet but after reading this (below) in the manual I hope it can be done. Midi symc whilst very useful perhaps isnt the most important feature I need. I think its the ability to reset the LFO rate with each note on message, and with that I can simply automate the LFO rate manually. I get the Voyager sometimes this week so Ill be able to find out for sure.
Quote from manual
OFF/SYNC: This setting allows the LFO to be free running unless there is a
connection to the LFO SYNC input (see below).
KB (Keyboard): This setting allows the LFO to be re-triggered when a MIDI ‘Note On’
message is received.
.
I’m not sure what you mean by “reset the LFO rate with each note”. You may be confusing rate and cycle. The sync switch on the Voyager controls the LFO cycle, not it’s rate. So if you set sync to KB, the LFO cycle will be triggered when you hit a key.
Again what does " I can simply automate the LFO rate manually" mean ? It’s a contradiction in terms.
