Hi Everyone!
I’m the proud owner of a slightly used Voyager AE, and I have a wee problem. The red LED lamps (performance, edit, master) aren’t working. That’s not too much of a big deal as I usually know which “screen” I’m in, but the biggest bummer is the MIDI LED. Not knowing when MIDI data is coming into the Voyager is such a pain - given my setup. Any ideas?
The previous owner was nice enough to offer some ideas (OS Update, checking settings in the Master Menu, etc.) but nothing’s working. He also mentioned that he switched the MIDI LED to act as an overload indicator for the audio input, but he can’t remember how he did it and I can’t find anything in documentation about that.
I can’t imagine the LEDs have burnt out and it’s funny that ALL of them in that area aren’t working. To me, this suggests a loose connection or something similar, but given the synths qulaity I’m not sure. I’m also afraid of opening up the synth as I don’t want to mess anything up.
So do don’t have a dedicated overload LED just below the letter “x” of “Mixer” on the front panel?
I did not knew there are Voyagers without this LED.
But anyway, maybe the modification did something bad to the LED and the circuits around them.
It is very unlikely that the LEDs are “burnt”. There is something technical wrong here.
Ask someone with electronic skills to have a look at it. Or better ask a authorised Moog tech.

Hi Till! I remember you from the Waldorf Forums waaay back. Thanks for the reply. I spoke ot him again and he said the “modification” he made was actually a setting in the voyager. I don’t see such a setting. But, I do know that he did the field upgrade to the OS3 himself as opposed to sending the Voyager in or having a tech do it.
I’m thinking that maybe the stories don’t match and that he possibly disconnected or shorted out the LED connection when performing the field upgrade with the OS3 board.
Thanks for your advice. Anyone know an authorised Moog tech in Canada (namely Toronto area)? I need that MIDI light if nothing else…!
does your Voyager have a LED in the Mixer section?
And a dedicated Midi LED right of the LCD?
Yes, there is a Mixer section LED and a separate MIDI LED to the right of the LCD. It’s a standard Moog Voyager AE. The only physical modification that the previous owner made was the field upgrade to the v3 board.
I think this is where the information is inaccurate as the previous owner said it was a software setting, but I couldn’t find such a setting and I also upgraded to v3.4 with no mention of such a setting, either.
Thanks, Till. I’m wondering the same thing. The LFO frequency light is fine, but I’m thinkig it’s an issue isolated to that (screen) section of the panel.
Do you know if there’s a technical diagram to show the wiring? I’m hesitant to open up the Voyager, but I may just take a peek and see if there’s a loose connection, or if a wire or two was left unplugged…
I REALLY hope that’s all it takes, and I was hoping someone else had experienced the same thing and could provide a solutioon, but it looks like I’m the only one.
there are no public schematics of the Voyager known. You have to ask a authorised Moog tech to help you. Or use your own electronic skills to fix this. But this is not recommended if you are not experienced doing so. And of cause at your own risk.

I never heard about such a problem here. And I am a regular reader of this forum since 2003 (under a different nick name before 2005)
hi Jaish, sorry but I am still in Vancouver and wanted to reply asap. On the plane I had time to rethink all that I had done with the programming that would have affected the mixer led - the only thing that I had done was the overdrive that the light would only light up when you reached that level. So for the life of me I cant think of why it wouldn’t be showing now. I also had only used it as a stand alone for the past few years so that I didn’t know if the midi led came on or not. It must be a loose connection, I had done a lot of programming for the various film projects etc. but I am positive that I returned all back to normal and with the OS upgrade you did that would have wiped out any of my changes anyway. I am stumped other than a loose led connection as everything works and it was only used in the studio so there was no life on the road banging around. Take it into a Moog authorized service dealer, I had used one in Brampton with my Source and they were amazing - found the issue in minutes where a previous tech couldn’t in 1 year. I’ll be home in a week or so, pm me as for some reason it is easier to get into the forum than my email from here.
Hi Greg. Thanks for your reply. The Mixer LED works just fine. I had a drump loop inserted into the Voyager and the Mixer LED was lighting up accordingly.
The problem is the MIDI LED and the “Master / Edit / Panel” LEDs around the LCD screen. Perhaps a wire popped or shorted when you performed the v3 board upgrade?
Anyway, when you get back I’d appreciate it if you can tell me the name of the service centre and I’ll take it in.
there is indeed a single cable which controls all the LEDs in the centre panel section. It would have to be unplugged and plugged-back-in during the course of the v3 hardware upgrade. I bet it’s just loose, backwards, or otherwise put back incorrectly.
I received my brand new voyager yesterday and those LEDs over the touch pad also didn’t work. I opened the voyager and plugged in a lose connector.
Thanks!
