Hi.

After much hand-wringing about the midi issues, I ordered my slim phatty today. I’ll get it in a week.

I am a lazy bastard who never, ever, reads manuals or uses the search engines on forums. :blush:

But I KNOW that on EVERY forum lives a resident Wise Guy who knows everything about these things and is eager to share, so:

as soon as my slim phatty arrives, which OS or additional software should I install? Are there specific procedures and priorities? (install this before that or everything will implode)?

I don’t care about: patches, VST, USB, DNA, whatever computer-related (will use the phatty live, connected by a good old “din” midi cable), arpegiators

I care a lot about: general and midi-specific stability, analogue/digital conversions (stepping, etc), alternate scales, memories.

Connect MIDI out from Midi controller keyboard to MIDI In on slim… done.

Or are you not using a keyboard to control it? Than that would depend on your DAW/Midi Interface.

You should install the latest OS, found on the Moog website under Phattys–>slim phatty–>downloads. :wink:

what is the most recent version of the OS I should load?

There is nothing you need to remember about installing the SP firmware. There are no additional banks that must be loaded in any specific order. Just follow the instructions on the ReadMe file that is included with the firmware, and you’ll be good to go. :wink:

I have one more question (the phatty is not here btw: I am just working on the FM and the EMF download pages):

3_03 is a “Operating system”

and

3_12 is a FIRMWARE.

two separate things, right?

I dunno, because the manual extension says that 3.03 is “firmware” as well.

So, should I upgrade to both OS 3.03 AND FW 3.12 in order to get the best features,

or just skip to 3.12?

This is not clearly explained on the moog product pages.

I strongly suspect 3.03 and 3.12 are two versions of the same thing (OS or Firmware), and that I should just install 3.12.

But I want to make sure before I mess up.

3.03 needs to be loaded before 3.12. They are BOTH firmware, but 3.03 is the actual OS itself.

The baby came in this morning, and the startup screen said:

“3.11 (674)”, and the box includes an addendum date july 6th, 2011. So, the machine was already updated way beyond 3.03.

I installed 3.12 anyway.

I also installed the USB 3.4

but in NEITHER case I got the confirmation screen (the OS upload was successful, though. Dunno about the USB update).

Just a case of sloppy documentation?
