Korg nanoKONTROL on the Phatty

Hi Gang,

It turns out that the Korg nanoKONTROL is a killer low-cost way to have simultaneous
access to all of the parameters on the Little Phatty that respond to CC#s.

I was psyched that I could get all of the CC #s on a single Scene of the nanoKONTROL:

True, but be warned, that if it’s anything like the nanoPAD, it’s poorly made. I was using a nanoPAD (via CC’s) to send toggle messages to some Midi gear and to tweak the Envelope parameter on a 105M.

While moving it from one side of my desk to the other, the USB socket came loose. I went online to find that several others had the same problem !!

I opened it up to find out what went wrong and found that the USB socket was surface mount soldered on the board. It’s (they are) a great great product from a logical design perspective and certainly the price is right, but unless you get an extended warranty with a “replacement” contract, I wouldn’t bother. Korg USA is very difficult to work with.

For what it’s worth, I was inside of the 1 year warranty period, I did not buy the replacement contract (didn’t think it would be worth it for a $60 device; figured “what could go wrong”). I went to Guitar center who sent me to an aurthorized Korg repair shop in New Jersey who looked it up to tell me “it’s not servicable, go back to GC” which I did, then they said “Acme reparis shouldn’t have sent you back here” then they gave me a Fax # to deal with Korg directly.

I’ve since moved on to an AKAI MPK25 and am happy with it (fingers crossed) but still no Joy from Korg on replacing it.

Hi EM,

Although I work for Sweetwater, I make a serious effort to not be “that Sweetwater Guy” on this forum.
Here, I just want to be DemonDan a guy who’s really into talking about Moog stuff.

I’m going to make a small exception here and then shut up about it.

Had the nano product come from Sweetwater it would have automatically gotten the free Sweetwater
two-year warranty and you would never have had to deal with some other repair place or the manufacturer.
It would have just been taken care of.
