I was messing about with ye olde RME a few minutes ago. I noticed that the values when turning knobs don’t always go from 0 to 255 when turned all the way in either direction. Sometimes the values will read from 3 to 252, for example. There isn’t any rhyme or reason to it really.
I am assuming this is just the nature of digital control over analog stuff, and that it’s probably just the same kinda “issue” already talked about here, but want to make sure my baby is in tip top shape. Has anyone else noticed this?
Well I figured out the reason why I had never noticed this…and it’s because it wasn’t doing it before. Here is the weird explanation, thus far…
Firstly, at the moment, I’m pretty over trying to “hip” myself to software sequencing. I’ve been trying to figure out different ways to configure my MIDISPORT 8x8 interface as a patchbay so I can use my old MC 505 as a sequencer for all my hardware stuffs. Needless to say, I’m having some issues (both good and bad) figuring it out. If anyone here can be of help, please reply or PM me, as this Remote Editor software is kinda vague.
Anyway, I realized that the interface has a “Thru Mode”, which will prove very helpful later on. I got to experimenting with some stuff and noticed that the “numbers” only do this when I’m using the 8x8 in Thru mode, or other stand alone patchbay operation. The numbers behave normally when using the 8x8 as a USB interface.
Also, other devices I’m using with the 8x8 are not doing the same thing.
Oh, the joys of the electronic musicians life. When one door opens, another one closes. At least I’m a little closer to making sense of some other issues.
