So I turned my Voyager OS on after not having played for roughly a week. Let it warm up for a few mins as usual, then I hit a key. No sound. Turned up the volume, and could hear the oscillators droning at a very low frequency, like almost below the audible range. Figured the gate was set to ext. trigger, but it wasn’t. I went around to the back of the unit to check the keyboard cord that can be found underneath the rear panel, and sure enough it was loose. Feels like it somehow came disconnected from the keyboard, and I’m not sure how to go about fixing it. It seems like one of those issues that I should be able to solve myself, but I need a little help getting started. I have never opened my Voyager before. Is there any advice for an idiot?
Not an idiot, a careful and wise person to seek advice before doing something that he could perhaps regret. ![]()
Ok, are you talking about the wire harness that goes from the mod wheel assembly to the back panel ?
If so, it’s quite easy to fix. Just remove the two screws on the top front of the mod wheel section, and carefully lift and slide out the mod wheels. You should see a wire harness coming from the back and connecting to a small PCB. There’s also a flat ribbon coming from the keyboard connecting to that same small board (mine came loose when I bought my OS and the aftertouch wasn’t working).
after reconnecting everything, if you can, put a dab of hot melt glue on connectors to prevent them form coming loose again.
When putting back the mod wheels assembly in place, make sure to align the top back with the groove in the wood by lifting the wheels until it matches. Otherwise, the two holes for the front top screws won’t be aligned properly.
Yes, that is the one I’m talking about. Thanks for the quick response, Alain! I will give that a shot. Although I did just come across a person who had a similar problem and it turned out to be an issue with the osc board. I am praying that is not the case with mine. Sure sounds like that cord is lose though.
aaaaaaaand 5 minutes later, my Voyager is back in business! You’re a lifesaver, Alain. Thank you. I am truly flabbergasted as to how that may have happened, though. I haven’t jostled it around or anything, so I can’t figure out what it may have been. Unless my roommate is throwing my synths around the house while I’m at work… That seems oddly unlikely though…

You’re welcome ! And thank God it was just that ! ![]()
If I’m not mistaken, the connectors are upside down on that small board, right ? A dab of hot melt glue on them should prevent any further unfortunate disconnection…
Yes, I believe they are upside-down. I’ll probably do that at some point. For now I’m just going to play happily. ![]()
I’ve just read the topic in 2 minutes… pheeewww! Glad it as “nothing” ![]()
