I just got a CP-251 for my LP. I figured I might as well buy that one first since I can’t decide which other Moogerfooger would be more essential or versatile… But I could need some input on what to go for next in line;
-Which Moogerfooger would YOU suggest getting first and foremost for use with the LP in addition to the CP-251, and why ?
Any suggestions and opinions will be greatly appreciated!
I have a MIDI Murf I use with my LP and other instruments and absolutely love it. Most will probably suggest the ring modulator, then maybe the freqbox or MF101.
What type of music gives you the biggest kick to make? The answer will help others, help you better.
Congrats on the CP251. It’s definately my next fooger.
Thanks! I make space music in the vein of Tangerine Dream, Neuronium and others. I also experiment with more atonal stuff. Sounds. Creating seemingly chaotic soundscapes etc. Here’s my youtube chanel for reference (hope its okay to post links ?):
I think of MP-201 Multi-Pedal and MF-105M MIDI MuRF.
MP-201 is great to control not only moogs by CV, but all other midi gear via DIN and software via USB midi
and MF-105M is a killer filter animator which i dream to apply to each and every audio out socket in my home studio :^)
You may not use Midi yet but ultimately you will. Even if you opt to keep a computer out of the mess (I like to avoid that, myself), ultimately, you’ll want to sync LFOs or arps on your Phatty with some drumbeat and the clock speaks Midi.
Years ago, every synth had a sync or clock in, but very few (Voyagers remaining some of the last) do today.
And my hand goes up for the Midi Murf 105M as well. It was my first Fooger following Phatty. Tagirov’s suggestion on the MP-201 is also a good one. For a while, I used the Pedal as a clock source. In a non-CV arrangement (Phatty only accepts Pitch or Env CV), you can still use the Pedal to respond in certain ways to Midi in (ie. play a note on your Phatty, then have the Pedal generate a 2nd envelope that affects either Filter, Volume or Filter after the primary Phatty envelope has done or is doing it’s thing.
But some of the functions of the Pedal are redundant as far as creating LFOs are concerned (your CP does that).
For me, the CP is near last on my list only because I’m depending on other ways to generate LFOs, noise, S+H, etc. (have mults and attenuatorys on my VX-351).
Sorry to throw all of this at you, my short answer is the 105M, yes an unusual (but see here that I have company) first pedal but it’s very versatile and you can drive much of it from the CP-251 (Sweeping, Murf Envs, etc).
For the record, I purchased the MuRF first, then had my CV-out added to my Phatty, then got the FreqBox and then the 101 Filter. I already have a Diamond Memory Lane 2 so have no need for a 104. Between that and some other gear, I’ve been set for a while now.
Thank you for your elaborate answers!
I will definately test the Murf in my local music store this weekend.
When I say I don’t use midi, I mean that I don’t usually link stuff with midi especially not the computer to outboard equipment. But I have a midi to cv converter here somewhere… It may come in handy with the murf since I don’t have the CV out mod done on my LP TE. I guess I could get some interesting effects running note data from the LP via midi to cv converter to CP-251 and then back into the LP ?
