could somebody inform me how to create those efx sounds perrey and kingsley did with a minimoog in the 60’s? i’ve got a voyager so i guess it should be possible to recreate the patches?
is this just a place for rich middle aged men who want to share moog serial numbers and post poorly taken pics of their studios and ridiculous amounts of moog ware? what a disappointment…
Since you’ve decided to take a low road…
They could not have used a MiniMoog in the 60’s to do this since they weren’t out until 1971.
None of those 3 sounds are hard to do, but you will need a delay to recreate them. Most decent synths could be programmed for the sounds, they are not too complex. They are more a product of the playing style and tape delay than any convoluted programming. They could well have been nothing more than audio signal generators recorded to tape and spliced. One of the sounds seems to have no filtering. The third one seems to have some neat modulation of the VCA. (Since it was done with a modular, that would be very easy to do.)
But then, maybe only rich middle age men can figure these out because we are not ‘tweakers’. In the time you spent waiting for someone to do this for you (for free) you could have done it yourself, learned a bit about the machine you are using and most likely come up with dozens of your OWN sounds that would be more usefull to you. Or not.
like they say: if you want the bull to react you have to wave a red cloth in front of it. no replies to my 1st post, 3 replies to my 2nd post. quad erat demonstrantum!
i thought it might be possible that they were created by the early copy-paste (record on tape, slice and create a tape loop) method but i wanted to get a 2nd opinion. as this seemed to be a forum for showing off (you can keep on living in denial or just accept this fact by browsing some of the most active threads here) i thought i’d get some help from engineers but it seems that on this forum the showing off applies only to the gear you have and not to the skills or knowledge you have required using it. this really makes me sad. where’s the spirit of mr. moog?
Cloudspotter,
I am a middle-aged man: not rich. I perform live frequently and issue CDs. I create my own sounds that pertain to my compositions. Therefore I am not a tweaker that just produces sounds and does nothing with them. I learned how to create sounds by countless hours of reading and hands-on experience. I never expected nor asked anyone to hand me anything regarding musical synthesis; I earned it. Perhaps that is a trait of my generation and gender.
Whenever someone on this board has a sound that intrigues me, I will take the time to figure it out to the best of my abilities and post my results. Sometimes it takes a lengthy investment of time. After all, there’s seemingly endless possibilities to modulate a sound.
Your obvious lack of basic knowledge and tact will not gain you favor or respect from me. Having been insulted by you, I have no desire what-so-ever to help you.
I’m neither middle aged, nor rich, but I see no point in helping someone who can’t observe the norms of civil behaviour.
And, might I add, there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with being middle aged and rich. We all get old, and wealth (like poverty) is not a marker of either vice or virtue.
oh boy, that middle aged and rich man part did really seem to sink in and hurt some egos here. it seems i should’ve first honey myself up, tell mark how wonderfully big his moog is. yes, this is definately a case of old- vs. newskool behaviour since the newer generations don’t have anything against sharing information. they know it’s not the information that counts but what you do with it. by all means please do continue your serial number and picture competitions. i was just passing by to get some info. i’ll get it done myself, don’t worry about that. just thought to find a helping hand here. tally ho, and keep on polishing those knobs because the dust is already settling…
p.s. i’ve never posted on this forum before so i’m not a panama canal or a yeti or whatever you may think i am.
