Is Voyager XL just a voyager with VX-352 CV Expander added?

Hello!

I’m new to Moog gear so I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking at on the site.

I’m curious about the additional features on the Voyager XL. From the photos it looks like a VX-352 expander has been added on. The specs mention a CV mixer, and I’m wondering if that’s the new addition I see on the left hand side of the instrument control panel.
Thanks!

T

The XL has a 61 note keyboard as opposed to the Voyagers 44. Pretty much what you see on the left is the same as the Cp251 ( this is where the CV mixer is located), the VX351(CV outs), and a pitch ribbon.
Electronically they are same .

OK, so the XL is a Voyager with a 61 note keyboard, plus a Cp251, a VX351 and it has a pitch ribbon. Is this correct?

If so, that’s a pretty robust piece of equipment.

The XL has a second midi syncable LFO with more waveshapes. Hard to say its worth the extra $$$ though. Triangle and square are fine but sometimes you want a ramp.

I can’t accept this as being $5K. The extra keys and ribbon don’t justify the extra cost. My biggest problem is with the patch points being located above the LHC which was poorly thought out IMO.

I don’t think there is any right place to put the jacks. Putting the inputs on the top isn’t ideal either. As a hybrid between self contained and modular, it can’t be both without compromises. Anyone who has plugged in a few cables then switched to other presets knows this

Id be willing to bet those fatar keys are more expensive than we think they are. Just to have another .5 of an octave on the T3 made the price too high to mess with. But I still wonder is that 1700 bucks worth of wood, ribbon, metal and keys?

Seeing it all put together though…priceless.

Id also think that the patchpoints being above the LHC aren’t to much of a problem if you have the panel tilted back a tad. Whats more fun than reaching through spaghetti entangled patchcords to tweak something?

I haven’t read the manual…are all the new pots with midi implementation?

HI Eric,

Save for the LFO, the pots on the patch panel have no MIDI implementation. These pots work just like the pots found on the CP-251/VX-351, except that the two attenuators are normalled to the Ribbon CV and LFO.

The complete MIDI implementation of the patch panel LFO (aka LFO2) wasn’t finalized when the manual was written, so Moog released an addendum that describes these features. Both the manual and addendum are available here:
