First of all thanks for a great synth.
A short post suggesting upgrades to the mod section of the synth.
I have had my sub 37 for a week and maybe some of my comments have already been implemented but I have not discovered them.
It seems to me that the mod section could be expanded, in particular with regard to the use of Aftertouch, Velocity, and Mod Wheel ( and possibly the pitch bend wheel).
From what I understand, I can use these three controllers only to change the amount of mod bus 1 and 2 to whatever destination these mod buses have been directed.
I think that I cannot use them as a source, as for example, is the case on my minibrute (aftertouch can be routed to filter, vibrato and Mod wheel can be routed to filter, Vibrato or LFO amount) or on my MS20 (the mod wheel can be routed to basically anything including a mod amount). Also, I think I cannot use the LFO’s if I have use two other mod sources.
My suggestion would be to increase the number of mod busses to 15. Only buses 1 and 2 would have physical controls on the front panel. All other buses would be set in the menus or through the PC/MAC editor. (similar to the VCS 3 patch panel or the Korg AN1X control matrix (which also has a PC/MAC editor).
For each bus a source is chosen (LFO1, LFO2, EGF, EGA, MOD Wheel, AT, Velocity, Pitch Bend (why not use pitch bend for something else than pitch), OSC 1 Pitch, OSC 2 Pitch, SEQ Note, SEQ MOD, SEQ VEL, SINE LFO, NOISE LFO), an amount is set, and a destination is chosen (destinations could of course be the sources as is already the case for certain controllers).
Software would be very simple to write for this in a firmware update because it seems to me that this would be a copy/past of existing code. All additional controller settings could be accessible on the screen by pressing (for example) the two controller buttons at the same time.
As a result it would be possibleto set a patch where the 2 LFO’s modulate the separate wave forms of OSC 1 and OSC 2, the aftertouch modulates the OSC2 pitch, the Key velocity modulates resonance, the pitch bend sets OSC1 Level, and the ARP SEQ note modulates the cutoff etc, etc. etc.
Hope this simple firmware update is possible.
Other suggestions
- A setting to make Controller settings compatible with the Slim/Little Phattys. It would be great to change all settings on these other phattys with all the knobs and buttons on the Sub 37
- Choice between BP/LP/HP/Notch filters
