It seems like every other synth company has one. So why doesn’t Moog?
What is this? Why it’s a drum machine of course.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a moog drum synth, especially if it also featured sequencing of some type with extra tracks for external devices (slim phatties?).
I’ll take my payment in the form of finished product serial 0001. ![]()
Because drum machines are best implemented in the sampling domain not the subtractive synthesis domain. Moog doesn’t not have any product that uses the former.
Are you being sarcastic?
There are a couple of analog drum machines that are kind of well known. 808? Tempest?
My guess is they have little incentive to do so, and they don’t have an established history of iconic drum machines either, unlike, say, Roland or Linn (the Tempest being Linn’s baby as much as Smith’s).
Moog instead seems to focus on what they do best, which is great-sounding monophonic analog synths. They don’t seem want to introduce a product outside of that great tradition, unless it’s really bring something new to the table like a Moog Guitar, Animoog, or LEV-96. I think what they’re doing is fine, and they don’t have to cover every type of product in existence like Yamaha or Roland.

Cmon! If they made a Moogercycle, I’d be first in line with my helmet on!
And I don’t see what’s so nuts about wanting a Moog drum machine- I’ve multitracked beats using Moog sounds for years- To dial them in with a dedicated box would be fabulous, despite the obvious expense (each voice would have to have its own Osc, right?)- I know its been discussed on this forum before, but hasn’t EVERYTHING been discussed on this forum before?
No I was not being sarcastic. There may be a couple of analog drum machines but the majority are based on samples. I stand by my original post.

While I personally don’t “need” to see Moog make anything and everything (USB audio interfaces, guitar amps big and small, keyboard amps, drum amps, silent violins, silent celli, clip-on tuners, etc.) I meant no disrespect to anyone who does.
I do intend to explore percussion programming on my Voyager at some point.
