Ok, so, a couple years ago I walked into my local Sam Ash and bought me a Slim. About 1 week later I took her back and got the LP. It’s kinda silly really how the mind tells you that slapping a keyboard on it and upping the price $500 makes it better. But, there I was buying what my brain was selling. I loved that synth. Despite its lack of a knob per function, it was still easy to tweak every parameter quickly. Who is really twisting 3 or more knobs and any 1 time. I’ve barely seen Mr Emerson tweak 1.
Anyway, as time went buy my desire for a MMOS continued. Then, one day, on a whim, I bought one on eBay. Now, in order to fund it, I needed to part ways with some gear. The Mopho Key & Tetra was a no-brainer. Out they went (got a 106 & Ambika. All good on the poly front). Next was the Prodigy & LP. Now, I could not get myself to part with the Prodigy, so that stayed. The LP drew the short straw and went to eBay.
A month ago I was in Sam Ash and decided to take the LP for a drive, for old times sake. How familiar and badass she was. I was instantly pulling out some old favorites. But, all misty eyed, I had to go.
Yesterday, I went to Sweetwater and bought the White SP. then went to the moog store and bought the white wood housing. Along with the pint glass and coasters. Need to toast the rekindling.
Now, there’s point here. If you are deciding if you want a Voyager OR SP/LP, my advice is get them both and stop complaining. It’s only money! Plus, Sweetwater has the 3 payment plan thing. Do it!
YES ~ poor slim phatty! i think she’s been feeling a little jelly of her new baby synthster SUB Phatty
<fingers Crossed!> ‘Soon Come’ the MOOG SLIM/L’IL Phatty and Taurus 3 SOFTWARE to match the brilliant SubPhatty and Minitaur Editors!!!
There’s a whole lot of very powerful mojo in the Slim ('n T3, too!) going to waste without them…
My Phatty Tribute was my first analog synth. Always wanted the Old School, got one some years ago. Thought a few times of selling my LP in order to raise cash for whatever flash of world domination I had in mind, never could pull the trigger.
I have an 88 key (Kurzweil 250)
A 4 octave Waldorf
The MiniMoog Old School in Whitewash
A Moog Opus 3
One of M-Audio’s better Midi controllers (AxiomPro)
… a pair of SEMs and piles of crap to play through, into and around it.
Do I really need the Phatty? Well when I have an arpeggio running on the Waldorf and I want a sweet lead or some prominent bass, the LP is somehow more accessible than the Old School to me. Don’t get me wrong, the MMOS is a powerhouse with all of the modulation capabilities, all of those knobs, an extra OSC and the interface into modular, etc. But Phatty has me. Despite there being [10,000] of them out there and despite mine not being worth 75% of what I paid, likely, it’s a keeper.
haha, it appears to be so. Sorries Guess you should have been chatting with AJ.
@EMwhite, thanks, it’s a battered love affair. But, she was the first Moog I owned that didn’t need to be sent in for repairs That Rouge I have sitting on the shelf is another story. That was my first analog, so, even if she’s in pieces ATM, I cannot part with her. BTW, I’ll take one of those SEM’s. Something about those SVF’s that just sound so friggin awetastic.
