I love the polymoog string sounds

But how to get them? Wish I could rent a polymoog so I could sample
it. Better yet, I wish Moog would create a new poly string synth.

I’ve always wanted one, although I can’t seem to find one for sale in the UK. The incredible weight of the machine puts me off, and it would be very expensive to ship one from another country. You could try the Opus 3.

I have a Polymoog and the strings are fantastic. Pretty hard to sample as the loop point would be hard to get right. The Polymoog string sound is two VCOs with independent LFOs modulating the frequency of each VCO, with the audio going through a fixed filter bank. You can also put them through the VCF, but you only have one VCF for the whole system which isn’t much to write home about as its resonant quality isn’t as good as the other Moog monosynth filters.

There should be lots of Polymoogs in the UK, they have a 110/220 switch.

I’m not big on digital synths, but can someone recommend one that does a really good polymoog simulation? (a stand alone unit, not a software synth)
Thanks!

I never ever heard a good redone Polymoog string sound on other then Polymoog synth. Maybe its due to the fixed filter bank and the over all sound of this unique synth.

I’m sure there are loads round here, but how many of them are for sale???

I’ve yet to see one for sale in the UK, searches on ebay find nothing, and a small handful of synth dealers here that I use don’t have them either.

At the moment there are two Polymoogs on eBay, the keyboard version in Germany, and the Synthesizer version is for sale in Canada. Both are currently at a decent price, although I don’t want to bid too high on either because of the incredible shipping charges. And I’m afraid of it being damaged in transit. I’m willing to pay up to £3000 for a fully overhauled synthesizer version with the legs and polypedals.

It has been around 20 years since my Polymoog was working but from time to time I come across musically horrible tapes which I had made using the beast. The saving grace of the tapes is the moody sound of the Polymoog as the tapes remind me of the most unique section, that titled “Resonators.” One could get downright atmospheric and spooky with the shaping of the sound. I am hoping that with the new Murf Moogerfooger that I can once again at least get close to that sound by placing it in the non-animated setting. I may use an Arp Omni II as the sound source, but I do not know how much it would matter. I really can not wait to check out the Murf! I remember feeling somewhat satisfied with a Polymoogish string sound generated from my Roland D-50 a couple of years after the death of the Poly. However, this was just for the straight string preset sound, which is quite bright in character in comparison (no Resonators involved). There were a couple of albums by Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) that had a good bit of Polymoog strings (Jet Lag, Passpartu). The sounds are so expressive that I imagine the keyboardist used the Polypedal (which I never had). The polypedal is a factor to the desireability of the keyboard from what I now understand.

Does anyone know a repairman willing to work on Polymoogs? It has a later serial number so I think it would be worth it.

Where are you located Progger? As you don’t want to have to do too much shipping!

I know a guy in London who is s**t hot with polymoogs, memorymoogs, chromas,CS-80s . . . basically all the stuff most people won’t fix nowadays but i guess that’s not going to be much use to you if you are in the States.

Hi everybody !

If you wanna hear a Polly in full flight, listen to Jon Lord´s “Before I forget” album (1981). Wonderful Polymoog sounds, partly through a Moog String filter unit (only available from Moog custom engineering at that time …).

Boeing, if you really wanna buy one, look out for a serial number above 3000 !!!

The internal changes will save you a lot of trouble and time without your Polly. Still better is a serial number above 3800, because the technical changes were completed. a Polly is no good without the Polypedal, which doubles the possibilities of this machine. Don´t try to cart it around, that is not a good idea with Pollies. Don´t be upset with the cheesy preset sounds; programming them is easy and worth it.

Last tip: Try playing it through a MF-103 (Phaser) and MF-104 (analog delay). Even my Memorymoog looks astounded when I do so.

Polymoogs are females, so behave (a Minimoog is a male and hence easier to handle …)

Polymoogie

I’m finding it very hard to locate one. At this rate I might have to get one of the earlier ones.

I’ve always heard the Polymoog on the Pleasure Principle album by Gary Numan. Good stuff!

God have mercy!

You should know that the “string” sound on the Gary Numan albums is in fact the Vox Humana preset on the Polymoog Keyboard (14 preset version).
